Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Sippy Cup

I saw the post below about types of sippy cups and it made me think.  We just had our 6 month appt with our pediatrician and she said not to give juice until he is 1 year old.  She didn't mention anything about water or sippy cups and I forgot to ask.  Are you guys just giving your little ones a little water in sippy cups to get them to get used to using one?  Are you giving it to them at certain times of the day?

Thanks!

Re: Sippy Cup

  • Yes, it is more for the "socialization" aspect.  I give DD a few sips of water when she eats solids.

  • I started giving DD water in a sippy cup when we started solids. She had a hard time pooping at first and I found the water helped her pass solid poops better. She now gets a sippy with water in the morning with her cereal and evening with her veggie. Thats all we're doing for solids right now but as she eats more solid meals we'll probably continue that way. You can also put formula or BM in a sippy cup.

  • Yes, we give her water in a sippy when she is eating solids. She usually drinks an ounce at the most during each sitting. She LOVES water.
