Hello. I've been reading posts from everyone for the last 5 months on my TTC journey which has helped me tremendously and now I have a question. Short intro, I am 35 (I will be 36 next month) and my SO is 35. We have a 6 year old daughter and I have a 15 year old son from a previous relationship. Conception of our DD was a piece of cake. This time, it's not going well. We have been unofficially TTC for 3 years but the last 5 months I have been using the OPKs. My cycles are terribly irregular (I found this out when I started using OPKs and tracking). In October, my LMP was 10/16. Used OPK and got no positive readings. In November, I had 2 AF: One on 11/8 and the next on 11/26; didnt ovulate that month apparently. I used OPK on 12/4 and got a happy face for LH surge. Due to our job schedules (he works long hours during the day and I work graveyard shift) the only day we could do the "needful" was on 12/4. My question is: how do I calculate the 2ww with irregular periods. We are going to try this on our own one more month and then we will see the doctor. Sorry I was so long winded. Any input would be appreciated.
P.S.
Sorry about the tickers; I removed the links from my profile but they still show up anyway!
Re: Hi! 2ww question...
Your 2ww will always start with ovulation, but with irregular cycles that will just be hard to predict from cycle to cycle. My advice with OPKs is to keep testing once you get your first +, you may have longer surges (or you may not) but if you keep testing and have a longer surge, like me, you'll be better able to pinpoint your actual O day. My last two cycles (current one included) I had two days of +OPKs, and typically you O after your last +OPK, not the first.
It also sounds like you're not charting, just using OPKs, correct? I would HIGHLY recommend using Fertility Friend and temping to chart your cycles, it will really help with that prediction and irregular cycle issue as well as to see if you actually O, not just gear up to it as OPKs can only show the surge, not actual ovulation.
Best of luck!

All ALers welcome!
I agree with pp start charting it will really let you know what's going on and also, you probably need an RE. I thought I was regular my cycles varied from 35-50 days I mean I regularly had AF more or less, he said no you are not regular regular is 28-3osomething days.
So It is my non medical opinion that you need to get your cycle regulated, and you need at least 14 days in your luteal phase if you have less then that you aren't going to be able to hold a pregnancy.
Best of luck to you and welcome to crazy world of TTC35!

I havent seen an RE yet only because we just started getting "technical" with TTC within the last 5 months. During the three years prior, we were not actively TTC but we also were not preventing it either. After reading everyones responses kind of makes me want to consult with an RE because of my irregular cycles. I am trying to give it the ole' college try first!
Hilarious! I was already obsessing about the lines and circles on the OPKs. Everytime I got a negative LH surge, I all of a sudden developed amnesia on the how many hours had passed since I last peed, if I was doing the test at the same time as I did the day prior and would it work better if i peed in a cup or directly on the stick...and on... and on... and on!
