Trying to Get Pregnant

I'm new, and I have some questions!

Hello everyone,

I'm new to the forums. I was looking at several different parenting websites and I felt that this was the place for me.

I'll be turning 27 soon and my hubby and I have started talking about having children. I have endometriosis so this question is more directed at folks who also have it or have problems with infertility.

I'm concerned that I may not have an easy time when trying to conceive and I would love any tips or suggestions that any of you may have, especially those of you who have endometriosis and have had a child.

Thanks!

  • Welcome! The newbie link has a lot of great information, you should start there if you haven't already: Newbie Link

Fertility Friend has some helpful tutorials, and the book Taking Charge of your Fertility has great information.

I don't have any experience with endometriosis but I'm sure some of the other ladies can offer advice on that.

     Good luck!

  • Hi, just wanted to welcome you.

I don't have endometriosis but I do have several friends IRL who do. One of whom was told that the chance of her conceiving on her own was less than 2%. She was told this in part because of all the scar tissue that was building up from the periodical scrapes she was going through. At any rate she conceived naturally twice both times they weren't even trying (though they weren't preventing either) Both pregnancies were rough and she spent the large majority of the first one on doctor ordered bed rest. But she now has two beautiful healthy kids, one boy and one girl, who are about a year apart in age. The other friend also conceived naturally and she had an easy pregnancy and delivered a healthy baby girl. So it is possible.

There are a ton of women on this board who also have the condition so I'm sure you'll find plenty of people to talk to and commiserate with.  GL!

  • Thank you both! I don't have severe endometriosis yet but I'm worried that by the time we're fully ready for children it will be worse. I'm just curious what my options are.
  • Hello and welcome. I have severe endometriosis and I am still TTC #1. You usually have to try for a year prior to starting any type of treatment with a RE. I think every doctor is different, though. I really don't know if my chances would have been better to conceive if I had started younger, but my DH and I have been together for 12.5 years and never used protection after the first couple months of our relationship. You said your Endo is not severe so maybe you won't have a problem when you start. My info is in my siggy, just if you're curious on what we are doing to TTC at this point. I also visit the 3T board for helpful information from ladies who are already in the same process as I am in doing fertility treatments. You may find some helpful information on that board, also, if you have trouble when you're ready to start trying. GL to you.

  • Thanks everyone! I do have a really awful doctor who does not take me seriously at all. My hubby and I are planning on moving away in a year which will mean finding a new doctor so I'm going to try my best to find a doctor that understands endo and actually takes it seriously and will help me. I was not taking birth control for nearly an entire year and I did not get pregnant so I assume I will need some help with it.
