Babies on the Brain

gift (for a friend due in feb)

so, i have a very close friend who is due in February. i'm the type of person who plans ahead so its on my mind now.... i would like to do something for her that would help in her first month as a mom. I read about getting collection of the mommy & daddy's favorite food takeout/delivery gift cards since the first month is so exhausting for the parents and cooking is rarely an option.  i like this idea but i don't want to bug them about what places the would want...so  i would love other ideas to help them out in the first month or just before without bugging them too much:-)

if you can think of things your friends or family did or gave you during that time that you really appreciated i would love to hear it! (those who have had a baby already)

i am TTC with my first so i really have no idea! Thank you!

  • Could you ask her DH about where they like to eat?  I think getting them restaurant gift cards is an awesome idea!

  • Bring FOOD! Bringing food to them in the beginning and beyond will be such a great help to them. Bring things that are premade but can be frozen and brought out and heated or things that are ready to go and drop it off at a meal time. Gift certificate for house cleaning would be good too.

  • If you want to do a food thing there is a website(can't remember, sorry) where you can coordinate meals.  A friend of my sil used it October when my niece was born.  You could sign up for,a day to bring a meal.

  • Bring food! A care package full of healthy snacks is also nice if she plans on BFing.

It's not that hard to throw shiit in a crockpot.

I brought my sister in law food when she had her baby, but I brought things that were frozen and could be put in a crockpot.  I brought soup and fajita's (and I brought the tortillas as well).

It's not that hard to throw shiit in a crockpot. I've never understood the "GIVE THEM FOOD" obsession. I didn't really have time to sit down and eat a full meal anyway.

Now snacks those I could have used.

You could always give them the money and they can go where they want. What a concept.

    Once again we agree.

  • Wait six weeks or so after the baby is born, then bring her food and company.

Everyone brings casseroles and is all up in your business for the first six weeks or so. Then it abruptly drops off and you're alone, with no social life and are far too lazy to cook anything for yourself. For me, it was really nice to have some easy food when I went back to work, and it was nice to talk to another human being besides my husband.
