Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Is this normal? daycare related

DD never comes home in the same outfit I send her in because she always has a "poopsplosion" at some point during the day at daycare. She only poops once a day and I know they change their diapers every 2hrs. I also know that if she is in a toy with a seat like an excersaucer and goes then it always leaks. I can't imagine that she is in a toy like that evey day every time she happens to poop. When I question the teacher she said all the "babies" have this happen practically every day. I just don't find this to be normal. I've changed diapers brand and size but that doesn't seem to matter. Although it happens on my watch on the weekends it is not an "everyday" occurance. Actually it rarely happens when she is home with me for the day so I don't know why it constantly happens at daycare. Anyone have a similar experience?

Thanks!

  • Ds went through a phase when we really started introducing new foods where he blew out diapers daily. I think as he adjusted to the foods, his digestive system calmed down.

  • this happens to us too, DS started daycare a month ago and almost never comes home in the same outfit, but all the time he was home with me, in the afternoons and weekends we never have this issue.  My gut tells me they are changing him often, so althought I don't get it and it's a little annoying I'm not too worried.

  • It sounds to me that you may be worried that he is in a swing or convenience type bouncy seat too often during the day?  I think this could be a valid worry.  I would specifically ask them to minimize the use of any swings/bouncy seats during the day and to limit such use to no more than 45 min to 1 hr a day.
  • My kids both went through phases where they blew out every day but they were short phases, like a week or so. if it happened every day I would assume that either they aren't watching the diapers as closely as they should or that LO was in an exersaucer or something similar the majority of the time. Neither one are cool in my book. Maybe ask them more questions.

  • My husband and I are surprised when DS comes home in the same outfit he went to DC in.

  • I find that when this happens to DS either because A.  They don't catch it in time and it leaks out.  B. they change ALL his clothes down to his socks when I probably wouldn't.  I've found his dirty clothes and all he had was a tiny spot of poo on his onsie.  Yet they changed all of his clothes.  So yes. for us to it's a rare occasion that DS will come home in the same clothes I brought him there in.

  • L goes through phases where she comes home in different outfits. I think it's gotten better now that she is on solids (at least when she doesn't have a reaction to it). Her outfits are changed for other reasons besides poop though. If it gets wet from spit up or something they change it too.

  • I noticed that every time I put DD in her exersaucer, she poops. Something about it, the upright, jumping, etc just makes her go. Since the bottom of her diaper is pressed into the seat, it's bound to go up her backside. If I combine that with her most active time, right after eating, yep, she will even poop splode for me. I usually hold her and wait for her to go before I out her in a toy, but DC can't always do that. The plus side is that if she's ever constipated, I know I can just put her there and she'll work it out. Smile

Also, the DC changes her clothes a lot, like yours does, often for drool. If the clothes are saturated, they will get in trouble by the state. I have given them permission to use bibs, but she still needs to be changed sometimes. It seems odd when I get her bag home and her clothes don't seem dirty, but I understand the reason. If my clothes were soaking wet I'd want to change, too!

This for us, too. Most days her clothes have to be changed at least once - yesterday she was with my mom and she had three poo-splosions.  Between teething and new foods, it's going to happen.

  • Holy smokes! This makes me feel super lucky! We cloth diaper both at home and at day care and have never (knock on wood) had a poopsplosion. I'd heard about them, but from what I've heard it's rare with cloth diapers. My DD likes to poop while eating (so sitting). It cracks me up, I can't imagine eating and pooping at the same time... but I guess out with the old, in with the new!
