Had my 38 week appointment and 1st dilation check today! Doc was pushing on my stomach to make sure LO is still head down & he got a really funny look on his face, stopped pushing, checked the heartbeat, started pushing around again. He said "Baby is really really low! Hmm."
When he checked to see if I was dilated he got that same look and said again, "Wow baby is really low. I can feel the head."
Turns out I'm already 3+ cm dilated, LO is putting a lot of pressure on my cervix & ready to come out. He stripped my membranes while he was checking to encourage contractions and said he thinks we'll be meeting our new arrival sometime over the weekend or early next week at the latest!
Re: Surprised the Doc
No clue - he didn't really ask, just did it. Maybe because LO is so low? I'm just happy to hear I'm making progress so I was fine with it.
38 weeks is a fairly common time to start offering to strip your membranes.

Maybe so in the Ob world, but she said he just did it without discussion. I'd want to know why we are encouraging contractions to start if they haven't started in their own yet. Baby is not overdue?
I've had a few contractions over the few weeks but nothing painful or particularly strong. Baby is definitely not overdue. I'd heard of the processing being done so I didn't question him. Most people seemed surprised though that he did it before my "official" due date.
I agree it's definitely something he should've asked if he could do. But I've heard of most OBs offering them at 38 weeks.

This!
Hearing this stuff irritates the hell out of me!!! Lol why do drs do this!!?? There is no reason whatsoever for him to even offer to do this. Some drs need to learn to keep their hands to their self unless there is a justified medical reason for them to be touching you or doing any procedure....or until your baby is coming out of you and they are there to catch it. Seriously so many of them don't see the future or current reprecutions that all of their meddling has.
ANYWAY....I'm sorry. Not yelling at you, just your dr. I'm happy to hear that you were progressing so well on your own! That has to be a great feeling and hopefully your little one will be here soon!
