Toddlers: 24 Months+

for those who have done disney world

We are thinking of doing magic kingdom next month we have a 2.5 year old and a 6 month old.  We live pretty local so it would most likely just be a one day thing.  Is it worth going with a baby that little? Will he be able to sit on my lap on any of the really slow kiddie rides (I don't remember what any of them are called, I haven't been in over 10 years, but I think I remembered a few family rides that were really slow) or the jungle cruise or will one of us be sitting out with the baby majority of the day?

Also, how much is there for a 2.5 year old to do? Obviously she won't be able to ride space mountain or splash mountain or the train ride but are their other rides she can do?

Would this be better for next year when both are older?

  • We go to Disneyland a lot and the kids love it. We took DS for the first time when he was 3months and DD when she was 6weeks old. They can sit on your lap for almost all the Fantasyland rides plus Haunted Mansion, Pirates, etc. Anything slow moving that doesn't have a height requirement. DS is now 2.5 and he LOVES going.

A great resource is the Baby Center. You can go there to change diapers, use small potties, feed or pump. They also have a sink, microwave and baby items for sale. We love it and use it all the time.

  • We took DD1 to Disney World when she was 10 months old. It was January, cold and rainy, and I'm not really sure how much she got out of it. She actually fell asleep on Its a Small World. She did however enjoy Animal Kingdom on that same trip, and we stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge on the Safari side and she loved all the animals walking about. I wouldn't hesitate to take her now at 2 1/2. My 8 month old might be a little less interested, and she likes to nap, but only if there are no distractions. If you are staying at a Disney Resort, they have baby sitting services that are excellent. Think about it, Disney isn't going to hire someone that isn't fully vetted. We did that on the same trip when we went to Islands of Adventure, and DD1 was fine. You could take the 2 1/2 yo to the parks, and have the babysitter stay with the 6 mo.

  • I can't help you personally with the 6 month old question, but from what I've read you can take your baby on most of the rides or else use the rider swap option (you wait in line, get a swap ticket, husband and LO ride the ride, then you get to go on the ride and can actually bring LO on with you again!). We took my daughter this summer when she was not yet 2 and she had a blast! Fantasyland was definitely a hit and there were plenty of things for her to go on, in fact we didn't get to everything we wanted to see.

I found this website helpful for planning what to see and do. She has lots of little tips like where's a quiet place in the park to hang out for you LO to nap. I also checked out the baby care centers while I was down and they were amazing, a great place to take a break even for the toddler, or if you find yourself out of diapers like I did, you can pick them up there along with just about any other imaginable baby health/care/food item you may need.

Good luck! Hope you have a great time!

  • Thanks ladies! I think we will try it out!

  • I went two weeks ago with my 8 month old. She rode lots of rides ( the train, Winnie the pooh, small world, people mover, monsters inc comedy show ( she was Boo), jungle cruise, etc. She was free so yes it was worth it. Both your kids would be free so go now.
