We have an infant car seat that came as part of the travel system with stroller and base. My kid is a weed, and her head is at the top, so we will have no choice but to get a convertible seat before the new year.
My question is, what do I do with the old car seat once I get the new one? I would never buy a used one off Craigslist, but part of me wants to list it. I know that it has never been in an accident and I wouldn't feel bad selling it like that because I believe it is still safe, but I would completely understand someone else's reservations about it. I'd rather sell it than donate it, since it wasn't cheap. I don't know what my options are. Any thoughts?
Re: What to do with the old car seat?
I've seen them listed on Craiglist, so people do it. I would never buy one from there, but I am assuming there are people out there that would. You could try to list it if you want and see what happens. Like you said, you are selling it in good conscious because you know it is still safe and accident-free. Otherwise, do you know anyone having a baby soon that wouldn't mind a hand me down? I would take a used car seat from a close friend or family member if they told me it was safe. I would take their word for it as opposed to buying one on Craigslist from a stranger.
I know the consignment shops in my area are not allowed to take car seats because of the liability. However, I think there was a discussion about this on this board before and someone else said their local consignment shop buys and sells them. So, I am assuming it's not a law (I thought it was), and some consignment shops may be willing to buy yours.
this. We are holding on to ours in case #2 in a girl but if we were done having children I'd totally list it if a family member didn't need it.
No family or friends in need, either. At least, none that I know of. Would it be obnoxious of me to mention it on Facebook?
Melodic Insomniac
I gave ours to my cousin who is expecting her daughter in February! She had registered for the same one, and we moved DD over to her convertible a couple months ago.
And actually, the original seat we had was replaced by the auto insurance after our car accident and we only used the replacement for 2 weeks after that. So my cousin is really getting a basically brand new seat
