Christmas Cards ....

We usually send out Christmas cards and instead of sending a card with a pic of all of us from May (last visit with SS) wanted to include SS school picture in it. Well, his pictures were taken in October and the school still does not have them.

DH and I attended a Christmas party at the White House on Tuesday and we have a ton of great pics. I would love to do one of those photo Christmas cards with one of the photos but I dont want to get flamed for not including SS in them. I dont plan on signing them "from the (last name) family" since SS wouldnt be in them but would say "from X and Y last name"

Or should I just avoid the Christmas card thing all together this year?

Re: Christmas Cards ....

  • I wouldn't send a card that excludes your SS. I like to receive pictures of kids or even a family picture but if I received one of just a couple knowing there is a child I would find it strange. (and mean)

Just send a card. You don't have to send a picture. But I wouldn't exclude your SS.

  • Choose a card that has multiple pictures and use a pic of him too. Play it up as you all share a photo but he gets his own.

  • I vote for collage photo card, SS only photo card or no photo card. I agree with the PP that sending a card with just a couple and signed by just the couple when I know they have a kid would be strange. If I can't get pics done of all the kids together or with us with all the kids, I always default to a collage card.

This.  Include the pic of the three of you, one of him, and others.

IMO, school photos are icky and don't belong on a Christmas card.

^^This.  Collage cards are great for when you can't get the kids to cooperate on taking photos together or when you realize you don't have a decent family photo to use.  Plus it gives you an opportunity to use pictures that were taken throughout the year that a lot of people probably never got to see.  After you get the school photos, send out a little note card with the photo inside.  Ooooh, or if they come in time include them in the Thank You cards for the Christmas gifts.

  • Have you heard of Red Stamp app for iPhone and iPad or their website?  You can  make your own compilation card and have them print and mail OR you can e-mail or text it.  So if SS's school photo comes in late, you can just whip it up on the app or the internet and text and e-mail away!

  • This is why we dont do picture cards.  Instead, Monkey and I make a card and then scan it in.

From there, we upload the picture to Snapfish and make our cards (with adding all of our names to the card).

And each year, I put the actual craft in a frame and put them out for the holiday.
