Ok so I was having a conversation with a friend last night and her husband asked a question and we had 2 different answers so I was wondering the same thing from a large group.
My friend's due date has changed 4 times in her pregnancy. Mine only changed after the first u/s and it was only because I was measuring less than what was first thought. SO my question is, did your due date change after your first u/s and if yes how many times? It seemed very strange to me that her due date would change and it has now changed by almost a whole month. Her initial due date was January 20th and now they are telling her it is 12-24. This just seemed very strange to me but maybe I'm in the minority.
Re: Due date question
That seems extremely odd. Although when did they change her due date? If she had a lot of early u/s then I guess it wouldn't be a big deal, but if they recently moved it up I would be really worried that my baby was so big that they moved my due date up this late in the game and there is something wrong. I also wouldn't be too confident in my doctor.
She could also be using the wrong phrasing. My due date was in February but I had a scheduled c-section at 37 weeks, maybe she has some sort of issue and is in the same boat? My "due date" didn't change, but my delivery date was very different.
Mine were estimate to be at the upper end of 5 pounds at my 34 week appointment. I delivered at 36 weeks and had a 4lb 9oz baby and a 5lb 1oz baby. Weights are just estimates at any time, but especially as they get bigger and are more cramped and have less room to stretch out and give you good measurements. I would be extremely uncomfortable with my OB changing my due date based on a weight estimate at 32 weeks (unless there was something else - is the baby much more developed then they would expect to see now?). With any OB who did that - but especially one who's only in their second year - I would ask for a second opinion. Can you imagine if they induced or had a c-section at 40 weeks and the baby was only 36 weeks? How awful would it be to have the baby spend time in the NICU because of a mistake by a doctor? I'm not saying it is a mistake or NICU time is guaranteed, but I would definitely get a second opinion from another doctor in the practice.
That is very weird. Unless her baby was growing at a very slow pace in the beginning and they originally made her due date for a later date and couldn't use her LMP because she was unsure when it was. Once the baby caught up they decided to change her due date?
It's strange, but maybe there is something else going on. FWIW, DD always had February 15 as her due date. It was calculated by my LMP, and the dating ultrasound had it off by one day but my OB kept it the same. She was born on her due date as well, so I guess we may have been a rare case.
Thanks ladies. My DH thought I was just trying to be argumentative over this but I was honestly confused and concerned. I mean my due date was Feb 20th but was measuring a week behind so my OB was constantly telling me that I would probably go past my due date because she is measuring behind.
Friend is one of those "one uppers" and we have another friend that is pregnant and the friend from last night know exactly the day she got pregnant (her words) and she "knows" this baby will be born before the due date and all that. I'm not saying that it's not possible but I would just think for my own piece of mind I would ask a seasoned doctor from that practice more questions and to make sure it was still right. I mean if she had told me her due date went from NYE to Christmas Eve I wouldn't have thought anything of it but it just seemed like a huge jump to me. She was due in Jan (20th and then 9th) until her a/s and they changed it to Dec 30th. And then she went yesterday and changed it again.
Well thanks for at least making me feel like this wasn't normal even if she doesn't. I am just hoping the best for her and baby.
By first ultrasound, I was due Feb 26. By LMP, I was due Feb 29. My OB decided he didn't trust the people who did my first ultrasound and sent me for a second at 13 weeks which dated Feb 25. She measured a few days bigger at my anatomy scan. My entire pregnancy, I measured 56 weeks smaller. I had 3 measurement ultrasounds in third tri and they all dated on track or a few days ahead.
She was born Feb 25.
Before my first u/s, my due date was estimated at 2/22/12. I had my first u/s at what we thought was 6w1d, but I measured 5w5d so they changed my EDD to 2/19/12. It never changed again after that.
