Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Feeding Schedules

Just curious what your LO's feeding schedule looks like now that he/she is taking bottles and having 3 meals a day.  DD just turned 10 mos. & honestly we have only been giving her breakfast & dinner bc she is a horrible bottle eater (we struggle to get 20 oz./day) & I worry that she won't take enough formula, but I know we need to incorporate a lunch pretty soon since she will only be on formula a couple more months. DD has always taken a bottle on demand so unfortunately she is not on a very strict eating schedule.

6:30-7:30 bottle after wakes up

8:30/9 breakfast: 2 T. oatmeal w/ formula, ~3 oz. baby food fruit, & some finger foods, usually fruits (sometimes egg, sausage, pancake/waffle, etc.)

11/12 bottle, then nap

2/3 bottle

5/5:30 dinner: ~3 oz. stage 3 baby food (protein & veggie), sometimes 2 T. rice cereal w/ formula, & some finger foods (veggie, meat, and/or starch)

7 bottle, then bed

Re: Feeding Schedules

  • I don't think its a bad thing she's not a strict feeding schedule. Don't stress about it. Just make sure she's getting enough when she is hungry. When my twins were infants, I always worried they were too small and not getting enough breastmilk. I always nursed them right before meals. Maybe you can try giving a bottle before solids.

I breastfeed and my DS loves to eat solids. I offer to nurse a lot to make sure he's getting enough breastmilk. He kind of just fell into his sisters eating "schedule". He's 11 months and has never accepted baby foods, so he's eating what we eat. Times are general:

6a Nurse and back to bed

    8a- breakfast

    10a- snack

    12p- nurse and then lunch

    2p- nurse

    4p- snack

    6p - dinner

    7-nurse to bed

  • Like PP said, I think this will really vary, and I don't think there's really a wrong answer here....or a right way to do it for that matter!!

Ethan is formula fed.  We started table food for all three meals about a month ago, and stopped baby food completely at 9 months, per his pediatrician's recommendation.

     6:00 AM - bottle (4-6 oz.)

7:30 - breakfast at daycare (table food: usually a carb, protein and fruit)

    9:00 - bottle (4-6 oz.)

11:30 - lunch at daycare (table food:  usually protein, carb, veggie, fruit)

    12:30-1:00 - bottle (4-6 oz)

    3:00-4:00 - bottle (4-6 oz)

5:30 - dinner at home (table food:  protein, carb, veggie, fruit)

6:00-6:30 - last bottle before bed (usually 5-6 oz).

    6:30-7:00 bed

  • My daughter is also a horrible bottle eater. She is great at eating solids, so I do my best to give her a balanced diet to try and make up for it. Here is her schedule :

    6:30 wake up
    7:30 bottle 6oz
    8:00 breakfast

    12:00 bottle 6oz
    12:30 lunch

    5:30 bottle 6oz
    6:30 dinner with 2oz in a cup

She doesn't drink all of the formula, but we try. I find that putting the formula and food close together, and then having big breaks helps her to be hungry enough to drink at least a good amount of each bottle.

  • We do this:

    7:00 5 oz bottle
    7:30-8 breakfast
    10:00 7 oz bottle
    12:00 lunch
    3:00 7 oz bottle
    6:30 dinner
    7:30 bottle

I'm feeling kind of ready to reduce the number of bottles, but don't what to give him snacky food to get him to the next meal. I'll probably just continue this schedule, but reduce the oz gradually until one.
