February 2012 Moms

I have to share...I am a horrible person... NBR

So when DH and I had DS, SIL was very jealous. She wanted to have a baby but her DH wanted to wait. Well right after DS was born they announced they were expecting.

We were happy for them because we knew how much they (more so SIL) wanted a baby.

But then came SIL's true colors. Since she was pregnant, she thought it was a great oppertunity for her to judge DH and my choices for EVERYTHING parenting/baby care related.

For example, bottles. We had to do formula becuase of medical reasons for both DS and me. Well SIL was going to breastfeed. She made sure to let us know how horrible we were for not 'trying harder'. The topic of bottles also came up once ad DH suggested the type we use. Well SIL went in to a big rant of how they won't need bottles, etc. I wanted to say...Lady, you are going to be a working mom. How do you expect your baby care provider to feed your baby??? Well a few motnhs later she came to her senses and she added several bottles to her registry. She is also haveing problems breastfeeding and I am happy about it.

Another thing was the pacifier. DS had one at 4 months old and SIL whispered very loudly for everyone to hear that they were never going to use a pacifier for their baby. Well guess what? They sent a text picture message of them leaving the hospital...and their baby had a pacifier in their mouth.

One last thing...it makes me happy that their baby isn't sleeping at night. She was so judgemental and mean with her comments and now the universe it telling her that she should think twice before judging people.

On that note...I will probably get a flat tire or something for gloating...

  • I know you don't really wish ill will on her...but seeing as how she was such a b!tch about things, I'm sure it feels good to know that she's reaping what she's sown. I don't know that I've ever said "I won't" where Ian is concerned, because I know that it'll come back to bite me hard!

  • I would have bitten her head off ages ago if I were you. Good grief, that's infuriating and I'm only reading it!

I'm glad life is teaching her a little lesson.

  • It's so easy to judge new parents when you've never experienced babyhood yourself, isn't it?! I'm smiling for you that it's not been a walk in the park for your SIL :)

Now I'll get stuck at a never-ending train or something this afternoon, too!

  • Got to love karma! She isn't worth it, though. Her high and almighty attitude only goes so far and when the honeymoon is over she'll realize she has no friends left.

I agree.  Whenever anyone says "I won't" or "I would never" about anything that they've never actually experienced they're asking for it later.  I'm sure everyone who she's been vocal about judging is laughing behind her back now.

The bolded, so so much. I've learned my lesson about judging. When I was pregnant, I had a week where I craved Taco Bell and had it twice that week. My friend, with no kids, said she would never do that. Well guess who's pregnant now and eating all the KFC she can get her hands on :)

  • I feel somewhat awful saying this - but I love this story!  A good laugh to get through the afternoon at work.  Funny things that we all say we won't do and sure enough, we end up doing them (for me, I never thought I'd pick up a paci off the floor, wipe it on my pants and stick it back in my kids mouth.  oh yeah, done it).
  • OMG if that makes you a horrible person, I am on the express train to hell!  I hope SIL mellows out so you guys can enjoy having little people so close in age without her competitive junk!

  • I think it is totally okay to wish those things on someone.  It's not like her baby is suffering or she is even really suffering.  It is simply forcing her to eat her words.  If you said you were happy she couldn't get pregnant or had a m/c I would totally judge you. But, having trouble bfing, needing a pacifier and the baby being a bad sleeper are things tons of moms go through.  It's just fun when someone has to eat their words!

I never say "I will never" because I know the minute the words leave my mouth the karmic gods will start getting my future adjusted  Wink

ETA- I had a friend do some terrible things to me in high school and when I heard she got pregnant when her LO was 4 weeks old I was totally happy.  A child is always a good thing, but I knew her life was going to be very hard for a few years!
