Two Under 2

Already 2U2? Stuff to buy you wished you'd had with LO#1?

So my brain just does not want to work.  All of DS's stuff is up in the attic and I can barely remember what we have and don't have.  We didn't buy much to begin with, but I'm just curious if those preparing for #2 are buying anything specific they wished they'd had with #1.

I don't even know if that makes sense.  So tired.  So very tired.

  • For me I got new crib bumpers (wonder bumpers) because I hated the traditional ones and hated the cheap breathable ones too

i bought tons of mylicon and wubba nub ppacifiers also hated swaddling so I got a few woombie (and glad I did...loved those things)

    otherwise I had most everything.

  • I am getting a nursing stool.  The nursing pillows were a waste for me but I was always propping my legs up on something to support the baby.

    Double stroller.

Thats all I can think of right now.

  • I got an Ergo with my 2nd, that I didn't have with my 1st. Totally worth it and I still use it a lot over a year later.

Bath seat for the bath tub. This was a simple way to bathe my kids together once my youngest could sit up. Well worth every penny.

Can you recommend your bath seat?  DD is just starting to sit will unassisted and has outgrown her infant tub (she's huge - 22+ lbs. and 29ish inches).

I got him this one.  https://www.diapers.com/p/dream-on-me-baby-bath-seat-turquoise-96707

in yellow. Loved it! We used it right up to 1 yr old.

  • I'm having my third boy and am planning to get/got:

    1.)  Double stroller

2.) Minivan (boo! but everyone tells me I'll love it eventually!:)

3.) video monitor with an extra camera for the big kids room

4.) I got the Ergo with the baby #2 - love it!

5.) bath seat (Buy Buy Baby finally has one in stock, so I'm assuming its not the recalled one)

6.) Aden and Anais swaddling blankets (got one with baby #2 and loved it -- only ones my fast growing boys stayed it/used for while)

7.) More bibs with snaps (after two kids, the ones I have are nasty and the velcro ones are too easy to take off!)

8.) Month stickers to take his picture each month

    9.) another baby book

    10.) diaper pail refills

    11.) Playtex bottle liners

12.) personal items--thermometer, brush/comb, destin, tummy drops, tylenol, gauze/petroleum jelly

    13.) seat saver for car

    14.) diapers and wipes

15.) Dreft and Dreft stain remover

16.) Dapple (love that soap for bottles/sippy cups)

17.) Debating about a diaper bag.  I use a normal, quilted tote currently, but would like something bigger and more durable for three boys...thinking about the JuJuBe BFF

18.) A new outfit for going home

I'm pretty sure anything and everything baby related can be recalled.  Let's all just be smart and not leave our babies in the tub unattended and you don't have to worry about drowning.

    OP.. we are getting:

    Rock and Play

New playpen (we are moving and I would like a nicer one that we can keep upstairs, that way we can also use it for storage of diapers/wipes).

    Double stroller

New monitor.. I haven't figured out exactly what I want yet.  I have the angel care and I know that will be used for the new baby but I also want to get a video.. maybe a double video for both DS1 and DS2.

Those are the bigger things at least. :)

While I obviously agree that parents need to be attentive when baby is in the bath, this product was recalled b/c it doesn't meet federal safety standards. It's not because of parents leaving their babies unattended.

"Hazard: The bath seats fail to meet federal safety standards, including the requirements for stability. Specifically, the bath seats can tip over, posing a risk of drowning to babies."

I think it's important for people to be informed about recalls (and the reason behind the recall). Sometimes the recall is b/c people are dumb (i.e. putting a bumbo chair on a counter/table instead of the floor), but sometimes the recall is because the product itself is not up to par (like this bath seat, since it is more likely to tip over).

  • I bought an Ergo, which was a necessity for keeping baby close while chasing after a toddler, a double stroller, and a 2nd convertible car seat.  Other than that reused most stuff, bought a few extra wash cloths, new bottle nipples, nursing supplies.

  • The things I felt I *had* to have with #2 -

Double Stroller (traded in the single travel system for a new carseat that was compatible with the double we wanted - graco ready2grow and we love them both)

    Larger diaper bag

    Ergo (LOVE IT)

    another convertible crib

seasonally appropriate clothes (since LO#1 is same sex as LO#2 but born in a different season)

additional pump parts (I pump more at work now than I did with #1)

special going home from hospital outfit & teddy bear from her Daddy (we did this with #1 and it's really sweet that they have something special that is ONLY theirs)

Gifts for LO#1 for when baby was brought home from hospital

pacifiers (we lost most of #1's over the last year and a half)

Rock & Play - I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS THING. LO#2 slept in it for quite a while when she had really bad gas probs & didn't want to sleep laying flat. We also loved it for just moving around the house if we needed to lay her down and let her snooze while we take care of something. Also helpful is our First Years Close & Secure sleeper - when she wanted to sleep in bed with us because she wanted to be held all night, she slept in that. We could put our hand in and hold her hand or stroke her head to comfort her without worry of rolling onto her or anything (which wasn't a prob wtih LO#1, but having this jsut gave us peace of mind).

  • I was pretty happy with the baby gear I got for DS1, the main things I bought for DS2's arrival were:

    K'tan carrier (LOVE).

    A second Woombie (LOVE)

Various pacifiers (I was anti-paci for DS1, huge mistake)

ETA: Nursing stool. I thought it seemed like the silliest idea when I was pg with DS1, but it's been awesome for my back and just overall comfort.
