so nervous I could throw up (NBR)

So, yesterday I was tested for the breast cancer gene (since my Mom tested positive for it) and I am so nervous waiting for the results I could throw up.  I'm actually debating calling the cancer center and seeing if they can schedule me some counseling or something to prepare me for a possible positive result (the test results take two weeks or so) since my chances are 50/50.  I know I did the right thing doing the test, but the possibility of knowing this gene is "lurking" in me is scaring the heck out of me.  Sorry no real point to this post.....that seems to be the theme of most of my posts lately....

Re: so nervous I could throw up (NBR)

  • Good luck! I can't imagine being nervous and having to wait for two weeks. I hope you find out sooner.

Before TTC, DH went for a check up to make sure his cancer was still in remission. I was so nervous I could have thrown up, and the odds were in his favor. Waiting is so hard.

  • I think talking to someone, a professional who can really help walk you through the process emotionally, is a great idea. I bet it would ease the anxiety.

Im so so sorry that you have to go through this painful waiting period for something so serious. Best of luck to you!

  • Good luck to you! I know how nervewracking test results can be. I agree with you and I think looking into counseling would be a very healthy thing to help you deal with either result.

They told me it usually takes 2 weeks or so....I'm hoping the holidays don't slow down the process.

  • Tell me more about the breast cancer gene! My maternal grandma had breast cancer and other cancers run in my family. TIA.

Edit and good luck. Waiting for results is really hard!
