My sister is scheduled to be induced tomorrow. She'll be 40w5d according to her u/s dating but 40w0d based on her own math. I was induced at 42w1d and to this day, I wish I hadn't agreed to the induction. BUT LO was fine - I would be singing a different tune otherwise, obviously. I'm just nervous for my sister!
If you were induced, what were the reasons?
Would you be ok with being induced again?
Re: Were you induced?
I was induced, mostly because my BP was up a little and I had massive swelling in my legs.
I hated it and hope I never have to go that route again.
I was 40 wks exactly, only dilated a fingertip and 90%effaced. I got cytotec pill inserted and couldn't leave bed for hours after it was put in. Basically, I was bed bound for 26 hrs. I was uncomfortable and hungry!
I would do anything in my power to avoid it for me (unless it was better for the baby and my health). My OB said it wasn't medically necesary at the point I was at, but he would feel good inducing me. Next time, I would wait.
I was induced at 41w4d. I hated it too. I especially hated not knowing what the right thing to do was, if she was okay being in longer or if she needed to come out sooner rather than later.
I had high BP and when I went in for the induction, it was the highest it had been, so I definitely felt better about it at that point. I did end up with a C/S. She never descended. I think she was posterior and that had a lot to do with it, so I'm sure I would have gotten induced even if I waited a little longer.
And I would definitely not want to do it again because I'm hoping for a VBAC.
I was induced with Aidan at 38 weeks due to signs of preeclampsia. I was induced with cervical gel, sent home for a few hours to see if the cervical gel worked. When I came back to the hospital I was 2cm dilated. Had my water broke and 3 hours later Aidan was born
with Dylan I was supposed to be induced. I was sent to the hospital at 37 weeks for an emergency induction due to signs of preeclampsia again. When I got there it turns out I was in early stages of labour which I thought were Braxton hicks. I was already 3cm dilated so I just had my water broke. And to this day he is still impatient, hahaha.
i would definitely be induced again. My sister has had 3 inductions, all with pitocin and she'd be induced again if she could.
Crazy how everyone's labour stories are so different
i always wonder what happened years ago before all of these procedures came around.
Spontaneous pregnancy #1
DD1 July 31, 2011
Trying for #2 since Oct 11
Spontaneous pregnancy #2= Ectopic #2= lost left tube
Spontaneous pregnancy #3= DD2 January 29, 2016
Spontaneous pregnancy #4= Ectopic #3
Spontaneous pregnancy #5= Baby #3 is a BOY!!!
I was induced at 41w 1d. They said my fluid was starting to get low, and since I was overdue they really felt it was important to get things going. My appointment was at 9 am, maybe, and they didn't admit me until close to noon. I wish so much that I had gone out to get lunch because once they admitted me, they wouldn't let me eat!
Besides that, I didn't think it was all that bad. They started with cervadil, which got contractions going well. The midwife felt like it was going slowly, but she let me go on my own for a while. I did get pitocin around 5 cm, and things went faster from there. It took 24 hours from start to finish.
ETA: I think I would be okay with being induced again, but not unless it really appears necessary.
I was induced at 40w5d (41w according to her paperwork) and I was okay with it. I was overdue and completely miserable because I was suffering from the PUPPS. I was 3cm and 80% when I went in and I was in labor for 5.5 hours.
If I had to be induced again for a medical reason, I'm all for it. If I have LO #2, I'd rather see if labor starts on its own, but I'm okay with induction. Just my opinion.
FWIW, DD was completely healthy. I didn't have an epidural either. (Not that I'm saying their bad, but I have a condition that prevented me from getting one.)
I was induced at 42 weeks 1 day by my ultrasound, and 43 weeks by lmp/charting. I was okay with it and I asked for it. My baby was healthy but I was getting anxious about being so overdue. There was a bit of placental falsification but not a concern to his wellbeing.
I think a lot of people jump the gun on inductions. The ACOG says there is no benefit to mother of baby in inductions prior to 41 weeks. It seems like most ladies on our bmb were induced between 40-41 weeks, which is considered post-dates, not overdue. 42 weeks is overdue.
I think its stupid that OB's prey on anxious pregnant women by scheduling deliveries for their own convenience when they aren't even overdue yet.
I'm having a homebirth this time and I expect to be overdue as well & wont consent to induction unless there is a threat to our health
If your sister is going to be 40 weeks 5 days, consider having her read this and decide which category her induction falls under.

I was 41 weeks, and the ultrasound was showing a large baby.
I was extremely swollen, and my blood pressure was high.
The induction went great. It was quick, and we both came out healthy.
I'd be okay with it if I needed it again.
Thanks for the link but she's scheduled for 7am. So exciting to think I will hear about my new niece today! This one will be my 6th niece!
I was induced at 37 weeks with Tim due to pre e, he came out 4 hours later
I was scheduled at 39 weeks with Nick, he came out on his own at 38 weeks. He was born 2.5-3 hours after I went into labor.
Both were epi free. My contractions were stronger WITHOUT the pit
With #1 my water broke and I didn't go into labor on my own after 18hrs. Was induced and had kiddo about 5hrs later. Very easy.
With #2 I was induced for macrosomia (he was 11lbs) at 40w exactly. Also without complications.
So two inductions and two uncomplicated births.
