Pre-Payment at Hospital

Did everyone else have to pay a pre-payment at the hospital they were delivering at?  Our Hospital called us today saying we have a pre-payment that we need to pay before the baby is born.  We have a doc app tomorrow and plan on swinging by the hospital to pay this payment.  I just wanted to make sure we aren't the only couple that pays the hospital in advance.

Re: Pre-Payment at Hospital

  • We have a deposit we have to pay ahead of time.

  • Our OB required pre-payment for our delivery by 36weeks. Which really sucks because we just switched insurance and have a high deductible. Had to come up with $1900 with a weeks notice... Luckily they worked out a payment plan with us. But now we have no money left for Christmas.

  • I had to pay our OB office one month before my due date. However, I haven't heard anything about pre-paying an amount with the hospital...

  • We had to pre-pay our OBGYN (global fee) and then the hospital is requiring us to pre-pay as well.  We are only paying half of what the hospital is requiring us (a deposit, if you will).  Once the baby is born and insurance adjusts the contractual rates, you could end up paying less than the previously requested amt- this happened with our DD.  Hope this helps...
  • I've never had to pre-pay anything with our hospital, but my OB office requires that I pay my deductible before birth. It's only a few hundred dollars, but they never give me a heads up when they expect a payment & just ask me to pay at random visits. Unexpectedly, my husband found out that his company reimburses us for our deductible. That was a nice surprise.
  • Maybe? When we found out we were pregnant the OB's office came up with what the round about price for prenatal care would be - $700 maybe? We could pay that or make payments. We chose to just put $50/$100 each visit. If we paid more than $700 or what insurance ended up saying it was, we would be reimbursed. We also have a $230 co-pay upon being admitted but I took some classes through insurance and had it waived. Insurance told me it would cost x amount but if it went more than x amount it would be 100% covered. Insurance confuses me so I'm going to have my husband call. In the end, I think we will be billed for whatever is left if there is anything.

  • We prepayed our hospital copayment. I'm not sure that they can actually enforce this requirement, but we figured we would just pay. We were unable to get reimbursed by our health savings account because prepayments are not eligible expenses. We will have to resubmit this amount after the delivery.

  • Not at the hospital, but I did have to pay the global fee at my Dr's office (I think in was like 600.00) I just made payments each month.
  • Yes, we had to per-pay at the hospital and at the doctor's appt.
