Things in nose Part 2

Last night LO stuck a jellybean in his nose.  We went through this last summer when he put a cube shaped letter bead in his nose.  A trip to the doctor and we learned how to dislodge things in the nose:

plug the opposite nostril and blow strongly into his mouth.

I tried this technique several times last night on the jellybean and failed.  The jellybean was much larger than the bead.

I called my mom to come over to stay with the older boys while I was going to run LO to the doctor.  20 minutes later, my mom was here and she coaxed him into trying to blow the bean out.  It flew out on the carpet, slimy and slim.  It had melted/dissolved while in his nostril.

ETA: considering this year our ER copay went from $30 to $70 I was very thankful

YWIA if you ever find this info useful.

  • It cost me 150 when DS stuck a bead up there. Good job Grandma. How old is LO?

old enough to know better, but young enough that curiosity got the better of him.

ETA: after our talk last year, I know he knows better because he came up to me saying "sorry, mom" in a whisper and then said the jellybean was up there and started crying.

  • I've always just used tweezers. *gag*

  • The doctor used the tweezers once the bead was partially protruding from his nostril.  I grabbed tweezers last night, but the bean was so far up I couldn't see it well, plus it was tight against the nostril when I was trying to get it out.  There was no room to grab it.

  • We had a corn incident last year.  Three kernnels fit.  Maybe one for each year?  Hopefully he won't decide to see how 4 is working out for him.

    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • My DS had to go to the ER about a week before or after his 5th birthday for a big bead up his nose. They used the long tweezers and got it out. It was so high you could barely see it, if I tried to get it out and made it worse I do not even know what they would have done. Scary. And then 4 weeks later DD jumped on out metal star Christmas Tree topper and cut her privates, ugh I hate the ER.

  • Thanks for this info LO is always putting things up her nose and so far tweezers have always come in handy I carry a pair in my purse, car and diaper bag.
  • I am the only one who feels squeamish about tweezers going into a nose?  Is it a myth that you can damage your brain if you go too far up?

  • Good question IDK, it is the only thing I can use that works.  Luckily nothing has been up there to far yet...Knock on wood.
