Wearing baby?

Anyone have suggestions I will have an infant and less then one year old so lo will most likely be worn for a little while.... I wold like something easy to by myself and that is sturdy enough to do other things while I hold the baby

Re: Wearing baby?

  • The Moby wrap worked well for me for a while.  I think it carries up to, like, 30 lb, so it's good for babies of about a year and under.

  • A ring sling is good. I second the mei tei suggestion, but not so much for when the baby is itty bitty (for me personally). The moby was nice and snuggly, but it got really, really hot.
  • I still wear DD just a out every day. When she was a newborn the moby was great. Once she got a little heavier it hold stretch out and get all saggy and loose. My maya wrap was probably the best baby purchase I've ever made.

  • Not a STM, but based on the research I've done, H and I bought a moby wrap and will be getting a maya sling.
  • I am a FTM. I have bought a baby k'tan carrier based on reviews.

  • I used a Moby for the first 4 months with DD and loved it. I do think it would be pretty hot in the summer, though, so that may be a consideration. I got an Ergo when she was 6 months old and still use that. We'll probably get the infant insert so we can use the Ergo for this LO earlier.

You may want to post this on the Attchment Parenting board too. There are lots of baby wearing mamas over there who know their carriers!

  • A soft structures carrier like an ergo will probably be easiest to put on. A wrap does have a bit o a learning curve, I reccommend a woven wrap since those can be used up through the toddler/preschool years. You can even get two wraps and wear both at the same time. I even wear my 14 month old while pregnant, and walked aroun all day at Disney no problem.

  • K'Tan for newborn/infant is AWESOME!!!  I wore DD in that for the first 3 months during the day a TON.  She was comfy & would nap (or at least, be quiet & comfortable snuggled next to me), and I had my hands free to make lunch, do laundry or whatever.

I plan to see how long I can get by with the K'Tan for LO2 so that I don't have to buy a double stroller.

  • I LOVE moby's in the beginning.  I made a mai tei for later this time because the moby is hard to put on in the parking lot.  I also have slings for short trips in the grocery store and stuff like that.

  • We went through a Bjorn and a Moby Wrap and finally settled on an Ergo which we LOVE and still use for DD. She is almost 30 pounds now and it is still super comfortable and DH loves wearing it.
  • I LOVE the Ergo. Starting using it right away with my 3rd because brothers were always playing sports. She is 3 now and I still use it when we go on hikes. Once you figure it out it is easy to put on by yourself.

  • I used a moby wrap for quite a while. If we were just running into a store, i used a jellybean sling that you can get at target. I then invested in a mai tei and love that thing. I really do want an ergo though because everyone has great things to say about them.
  • Thanks for all of the advice I am going to look them up now and make up my mind. It will be for home mostly I have a double stroller that I will use out. Yay I'm excited!
