2nd Trimester

vaginal cyst?? (tmi)

I think I found a cyst...down there. Yeah. Not cool. Just curious if anyone else has had one? How did you treat it? It really is painless and doesn't bother me. I'd like to wait until my next prenatal apt before having it looked at (Dec 31st). Thoughts?

Re: vaginal cyst?? (tmi)

  • Hard to say from the vague description but I'd say there's a pretty decent chance you have a Bartholin's cyst.  Pretty harmless, although they can get infected.  You an apply warm compresses to the area and sometimes this can help it to drain.  If it's not painful or getting larger rapidly I'd say waiting is fine.  If it starts to bother you I'd given them a call and get in sooner.  If it does start to get infected it would definitely need to be drained.

Anyway, like I said, its a pretty vague description so its hard to say but that is probably one of the more common cysts "down there. "  Hope that helps.

  • I had one at the beginning of the pregnancy and told my midwife (showed her too) she wasn't alarmed. She said it could have even been an ingrown hair. I placed a warm compress on it for a few minutes and then barely squeezed it and boom. All gone.
Married my BEST FRIEND on December 1, 2007. Started TTC in March 2008. Found out we were expecting our first child in October 2008 - but had a m/c in December 2008 - resulting in a d&e. Met with a RE in May 2009 and set a plan - but conceived unexpectedly on our own! Our precious little Sophia was born on February 9, 2010! Lilypie Third Birthday tickers

Sorry it's vague...I just don't really know how else to describe it. I can move it between my fingers and it feels like a little frozen pea. Does not seem to be an ingrown hair as those are more painful. Also, I read about the Bartholin's cysts, which is what I think it is, if nothing else.

  • uuugh, i had a Bartholin cysts TWICE. first one was PAINFUL (had to go to the ER to get it lanced and drained. the second time was ok; i just sat in a tub of warm warm for a few hours and it popped itself.

where is it located? if it's at the bottom of your vaginal lip, closest to your butt, then it most likely is that. i was start warm compressions now before it has the chance to grow.

  • Hot compresses at least twice a day. That will move it to the surface so it can pop. Don't try to pop it yourself. If it's not getting bigger leave it alone. Just watch it. I have cysts like crazy. Down there and under my arms. Mine are from sweat glands getting.clogged.

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!

  • I've gotten these types of cysts quite a few times in the past. Sometimes painful, sometimes not. I agree with the compress but do NOT try to pop it on your own. It could lead to infection. All of mine went away on their own, no popping needed. If it gets painful talk to your doctor about having them drain it for you.

Ugh I don't know what I would do if something like this became painful. OUCH! Mine is actually at/near the top on the outer edge of a lip. I will try the warm compress and a bath to see if that helps.

Did yours feel kind of hard? I just cant imagine it popping...

  • I had one of those before. It started as the size of a pea, & grew a little & took on an almond shape. Then it shrunk again and never came back. It was firm and painless.

Oh, and don't worry. Nothing vag related is tmi for this board.

  • I had a sebaceous cyst in about the same place you described (top, outer). It was about the size of a small pea and hard. I did the warm compress and it actually popped on its own (didn't hurt) and was gone in about a week.
