Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Baby Proofing for Nieces and Nephews

My DS is only 5.5 months old, but we're probably going to be hosting a family thing at our house next month. I have lots of nieces and nephews, ages 1 and up, who will probably be here, and I need help baby proofing. (My SIL has 3 under 3 and they are into EVERYTHING!) I figure we will corral them in the living room to keep things simple. I bought cabinet door latches for the built-in and entertainment center. I've already covered the outlets. I figure I will cover the hearth with a thick quilt b/c it's bumpy stone and I don't think those rubber bumpers will stick to it well. What am I forgetting? Also, can you recommend some good gates? (DH prefers the kind that he doesn't have to anchor with screws.)

Re: Baby Proofing for Nieces and Nephews

  • I can't remember the name of the gates my husband bought, but at DD1's first birthday, we put the foam tiles down, and two gate systems together in a sort of circle. We then threw the kids in (literally :)) with some toys. I'm not sure if DH had to screw anything in, but I think the gates just came in a box and clicked together. He got them at BRU, but bought two units so that we could make a circle. The sides are mesh so the kids can see out, but they about 2 1/2 - 3 feet high so no one is making an escape. Good luck with all those kids in your house. I hope your furniture survives!!
