DH goes to a conference for his field every year and was asked to be on a panel of experts. This is something he has never done before and I am so excited for him! However the conference is going to be late February in California (we live in Virginia). He is very hesitant to go because I am due late March with our first LO. I apprehensively think he should be able go; I'll be fine by myself for a few days.
I know you ladies cannot tell me when my baby will be born (or can you...), but would you feel alright with your SO leaving for a few days 4 weeks before the due date?
Re: DH leaving for a trip in Spring
I think it'll be fine for him to go personally. Do you have any history of premature births (i.e. you or your mother?)
Thanks so much everyone. I am a FTM, but as of right now we are not expecting any complications. My mom also had me and my siblings at full term so there are no worries there. If in February I think I will need the additional help, my mom is retired so she can come hang out with me for few days and walk the animals (muahaha).
I feel much better after reading your answers and justified that I am not a crazy person for thinking it is fine for him to leave at that time. Thanks again!
Just like PP's said, as long as you aren't at a high risk for delivering early for any reason, you should be fine. You will likely be close to your due date/over due date if you are a FTM. If you are still concerned, why don't you just have him go for less time. If the conference is a full week, maybe he can go for a few days.
GL!
Hi - I just wanted to let you know that I was one of the rare exceptions... I had a model pregnancy with my first - no MS, no GD, felt great, worked out 5 days a week, started off at a healthy weight and gained slightly more than the appropriate amount (~40lbs).
I went for my 36 week check-up (no internal exam), and the dr said I'd likely go 2 weeks late. My water broke that night, and I delivered a healthy 8.5lb baby. From the time my water broke until I delivered was 7 hours.
My mom had no history of preterm labor or delivery. My sister delivered all 4 of her kids early, ranging from 33 to 37 weeks.
Even though it's a huge opportunity, I wouldn't feel comfortable with DH leaving, especially if he had to go that far away. My DH travels a lot, and he "grounded" himself 5 days before I had DD. Thank goodness!
