We've used the purple Desitin on my 1 year old since he was born and it's been great. Lately (maybe due to increased cow's milk...) his diaper rash is much more stubborn.
My daycare provider recently recommended Triple Paste for bad diaper rash, but as pp said, it is a little pricey - I've seen it ranging from $7.99 to $10.99.
Triple paste!!! If the rash is persistent and looks like scattered. raised red dots, consider that it may be fungal. In that case you would need to use an antifungal cream like clotrimazole or miconazole.
When L got as really bad rash, it was blistery, the pedi just had me continue desitin (I use blue) and then put either aquaphor or Vaseline over it. She also recommended to keep her butt airing as much as possible between changes and to use a hair dryer on cool to really make sure it's dry. She has had multiple food intolerances since starting solids so we are dealing with a lot of red bottoms.
Honestly I have found the best thing I used when my son was a baby was Aquaphor. I know this is the same thing I will use on my new LO after he/she is born. When I used it the next diaper change I noticed the redness was almost if not already completely gone. It was also the best thing the hospital recommended to me compared to what was on the market. I know before most stores would carry this in the pharmacy section but I have noticed it is now carried in the baby section as well so that tells you more moms are recognizing this as something to be used for babies.
