Do you have any plans to start/continue with traditions with your LO?
Our plans so far are pretty standard...
1. DH wants to do Santa gifts, and then one special gift from daddy and one from mommy.
2. Christmas PJs
3. Some sort of sharing with less fortunate. This year we did a starter kit of Cloth Diapers for a diaper drive, since she's so little. As she gets older we will let her choose what she wants to give to. I'd like to do one thing to help locally and one global (ie, toy drive locally and world vision type gift - chicken, goat etc as a global gift)
4. We want her to have Christmas morning at home, but whoever wants to join us is welcome. Then we will go to my sister's house 45 mins away to have Christmas Dinner with my family (grandparents, BIL, niece, nephew) weather permitting.
Re: Christmas traditions?
We'll have to wait till next year to start some traditions. Since DH is military, we've moved hours away from our family. Since we're both still off on leave until January, we're taking the time to go back to them to spend her first Christmas with both families.
We would like to spend it at home, but who knows where he'll be posted in the future, so we'll take advantage of the family time now that we can take it. Plus she's being baptised at the Church I was baptised in which is back where we're from so we're going to be there from the 16th of December till the 4th of January! That's 1 week per set of grandparents. Yikes! It's crazy. Good thing we have some good friends who live on base and (unfortunaly for them) can't fly home, so we'll have some live in sitters for our animals.
I know I'll be SO ready to come home at the end of that crazyness but it will definitely be a good memory of her first Christmas!
We do Christmas Eve the whole day with my hubby's side, grandpa makes cookies with the grand kids, lo is the youngest of 7. Us grown ups talk and eat and laugh then diner and gifts.
Christmas morning is us at home each person opens one gift at a time, even the dog and cats give/get gifts. Only one or two are from Santa. Then my whole family comes for diner. It's crazy busy but wonderful and magic!!
We ordered a personalized family ornament with our names and the year on it, and I plan to get a new one each year.
On Christmas Eve, my grandfather used to drive us around to look at Christmas lights. DH's family has the same tradition, so I think we'll continue that.
Baking cookies is a big part of the Christmas season for me too, I'm really looking forward to when DD is old enough to "help" me!
We're not starting anything this year - she's so little and we're so broke, haha. We have a tree, we're doing Christmas day at home just us, so hubby and I will probably make a nice fry up.
Starting next year, there are traditions I'd like to do:
* presents to each other on Christmas Eve, including an ornament and PJs
* Santa presents are Want, Need, Wear, Read
* making cookies for the neighbors
* some kind of charity, Angel Tree or something like that
