Progress! update

Last week I called Childrens in Cincy to see if they had received our paper work. I spoke with a receptionist and she said we were on the wait list. I asked her what the procedure was with the wait list and if there was a way to expedite anything/be on a cancellation list and she said she would put me through to scheduling to discuss it further. Scheduling looked up DD's information and then said "it doesn't look like shes on the wait list.", as my blood began to boil and I started asking why someone else told me that we were, she clairfied with better news "There is no wait list for her age group, we can go ahead and make your appointment." SUCCESS!!

So we have an appointment scheduled for Jan 17th with a developmental pedi in the Behavioral Science Department. I'm really happy with that timeline, its after the holidays/dds birthday and still way before I would have expected to be seen.

Yesterday was our EI evaluation, and it was wonderful. The two ladies that came with our case worker were super sweet and had a lot of positive things to say about what we had already been doing with DD, which gave me a great deal of relief. One of the gals said to me "She has some great skills to build on." which also gave me hope, but she said that DD for sure had some "pockets". I was kind of surprised how poorly DD did on the physical portion...since it always seems normal to me, and finding out what she should be able to do.

EI called at 9:30am to tell us DD qualified, even though we pretty much knew right away she would once we read the criteria in our packet. We have an appointment for December 18th to write our IFSP.

Once again, I have to thank all of you amazing ladies. If I hadn't come here I would still be waiting on Dayton Childrens to call me (which btw they never have). I would not have known EI/HMG even exsisted and I would not have known to push for her to be seen at Cincy.

Re: Progress! update

  • Great news! Glad to hear EI is on board.

Congratulations on your first successful advocacy for your DD! Give yourself a pat on the back for work well done. You will be a Mamma Bear expert in no time!

Take some time to breath and enjoy the holidays. Good luck at your appointment in January!
