Hi I lost my baby girl, Malia in April this year due to an incompetent cervix. I was almost 23 weeks, so there was nothing that they could have done for her. I'm pregnant again and due in April again. It still hurts and pregnancy is not as fun as it was before since I'm no longer ignorant of the facts of what can happen. But I can't help but feel a little better since I get a second chance. We found out that we are having a little boy this time. His name will be Alexavier. So far I've had to have my cerclarge early at 10 weeks, since my cervix was already shortening. I've been on bed rest ever since and may be for the rest of this pregnancy.Any similar stories?
Re: Introduction: cautiously excited
This pregnancy, we tried the "wait and see" approach. My cervix shortened slightly around 15w and I was also experiencing contractions. I was put on strict home bed rest, p17 shots weekly and Procardia every 4 hours. Things held steady until 22w4d; my EXACT loss milestone; but at my weekly check up my cervix had shortened drastically and was dilating. It looked as though we would lose this baby too. They placed an emergency cerclage the next day and thankfully it worked.
I am now 37w4d! My cerclage came out last week at 36w3d and all meds were stopped. Now I'm just waiting to have this baby. I spent 21 long weeks on bed rest. This pregnancy has been hard hard hard but I am still here and am cautiously optimistic that this will be our rainbow baby and we will get to take him/her home.
I really wish you the best; this is very scary after losing a baby! Bed rest is hard but if I did it you can too! I think it's very good that you had your cerclage placed preventatively. They have much higher success rates than emergent cerclages.
Just take it day by day, week by week. That's all you can do. I found a lot of fellow bed resters on this board which helped tremendously!
