Question for those that BF and started solids...

Are you noticing differences in frequency of LO pooping? Ever since I started solids, he has not pooped in 3 days. Whereas, he used to go at least 1-2 a day. I was only giving him 1 T of solids a day, but since have stopped until he goes.

Anyone else?

I can't believe he is 6 months old...time is going by to fast.

Re: Question for those that BF and started solids...

  • yes, sometimes she'll skip a day (especially when she eats bananas). I wouldn't worry if he is not uncomfortable.

You can give pear or prune puree to help with the constipation.

How did he like eating and what did he have?

Yeah, I was reading about the foods that are most constipating and they are BRAT..stands for , bananas, rice, apples, and toast (although, I will not be giving him toast anytime soon)...

I started rice cereal, and bananas..I was taking it slow. He actually liked both of those but these 2 are most binding so I'll be switching to oatmeal. I gave him avocado this morning and he had a few bites and was ok with it, then started to gag on it which told me he had enough. We will be doing sweet potatoes next. I'll probably be giving it to him this weekend.

What has Isabel been eating and what's her favorites?

We started her on oatmeal w/ BM, then yams - she loved it so much that she was licking her bib. She HATED avocados. She is eating pears, bananas, prunes, yams, carrots, sweet potatoes, yams, and butternut squash. I will try peas next.

She loves eating and cannot see us eating without her - she cries! She eats lunch and dinner (I BF first).

  • I had to switch DS from rice cereal to oatmeal when he was a baby because rice was so constipating.

You can try giving prunes or pears, or even mix 50/50 prune juice and water and see if LO will drink it in a bottle or sippy.

DD is not on solids yet because of tummy issues.  We are waiting until 6 months.  She is so ready, though!  She tries to grab the spoon when I give her medicine.

DS born 8/8/09 and DD born 6/12/12.
  • My pedi told me to give LO 50/50 prune juice and water if LO had constipation.

I just started giving LO oatmeal with BM yesterday.  So far, he hasn't had any issues.  He loves it. I can't wait to try other foods out.
