Flying in Dec to Chicago, need hotel recomendations pls

Hi ladies! It's my first time posting on this board. I actually didn't know it exsisted!

My parents live in Southern Illinois so it's about a 5 hour drive down I55 to their house. We're flying for the first time with the baby from Holland and dont know if she'll be able to handle that kind of car ride after a 8-9 hour flight, getting luggage, renting a car, etc. So I was hoping to maybe drive a bit outside of Chicago towards "home" and possibly get a hotel for the night. Can you recommend a city/hotel that is anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour outside of the city?

p.s. we'll also have our dog but will sneak him into the hotel if we have to. Oh and the cheaper, but still clean, the better! Thanks!

  • I'm not that familiar with anything south of the city, but my recommendation would be to either just drive on I-55 until you see an off-road hotel area or to search online for Holiday Inns or Hampton Inns on I-55 going south. We road trip a lot because DH hates to fly and we always just look for one of those 2 chains and have never been disappointed (and have never had trouble getting room, usually around $100-$120/night).

  • Try any Kimpton hotel in the city-they are dog friendly and awesome. Hotel Burnham, Hotel Monnaco or Hotel Allegro are all in the heart of the city.
