October 2011 Moms

First u/s tomorrow

So I kind of hate the ladies on my BMB so I figured I'd share this here. I have my first u/s tomorrow & DH has insisted that we bring Em with us. I'm torn. I'm afraid she'll run amok & we won't get the full experience. I'm afraid that if there is something wrong, DH & I won't be able to fully comprehend the details because of her. That being said, if there is something wrong, she'll be there to snuggle with and help us deal.

I also have a very real and probably highly irrational fear that there is more than one baby in there.

Re: First u/s tomorrow

  • I don't think I ever noticed this before, but it says you're from Allentown PA? I am too!!! If you're comfortable, send me a PM about where you live or where you get prenatal care. I'd love to chat!

About your u/s -- I probably wouldn't want to bring my child if I had any other option. I'd want to be able to focus and relax. GL with your scan and hope everything is ok.

  • If it was me, I wouldn't bring Gator. We are always going to be Team Green but if we were the type to find out, I would have her come during the anatomy scan. Our offices do the initial check if the baby and his or her organs, and then they allow siblings and others to come in when they announce the sex of the baby.

Or I would just not bring her at all, bring her a ITS A BOY or ITS A GIRL balloon, tell her it's from her brother or sister so she could be part of the fun, and just give her the balloon. She would have more fun with the balloon then being in a tech office listening to people talk and seeing the screen.

  • Good luck!  Keep us posted :-)

I do not plan on bringing P to my first u/s.  I just would not be able to relax.

  • A went to my very first ultrasound and also my AS. He was almost 10 months for the first and do great.

He had just turned a year at the AS and he was such a mess. He didn't want to sit still, I was distracted because he kept reaching for me, and I feel like DH didn't get to enjoy any of it because he was trying to entertain him.

    No more ultrasounds for him!

  • We brought DS to our appointments. We didn't have anyone to watch him and DH wanted to be there. We always brought books/snacks/drinks to entertain him. As long as the appointments were pretty much on time DS was fine. Occasionally we would wait forever and he would get cranky, but we didn't have any other choice.

  • Is it bad that I can't remember if I brought L with me to my first u/s? I can't even remember if MH was there Embarrassed

I do remember that we brought L with us to the a/s. (I better remember that, it was only a month ago haha) She was pretty well  behaved during most of it, but ironically, when they told us we were having another girl, she started crying lol.

Regardless of whether you bring Em with you or not, GL and I hope everything looks good :-)

  • Good luck!!!

I brought my DD to my 1st ultrasound, but she was less than 6 months old at the time, so I think that's a little different.

Also, I was so afraid that I was having twins the 2nd time around. I have no idea, but I was convinced. Obviously no twins here. Wink And good thing too because The Lord knows I couldn't have handled it.

  • I went alone for the first and had A for the subsequent u/s.

  • I didn't take DD to my first u/s but took her to the anatomy scan. My mom went to the anatomy scan and held her. She was excellent, but she seemed very unsure of someone messing with her mommy.
  • We've taken Aidan with us everytime.  I was torn like you and figured the first time would be the test.  He's done really well each time.  I suppose the doctor and nurses are interesting enough for him.  We do take an arnsenal of snacks and toys just in case.  So far, so good.  Good luck!
