Afraid of the dark?

So I was driving home with LO last night and she started crying bc it was dark. Of course I took a wrong turn and got lost so that didn't help with the crying in the back. I had to turn on one of the interior lights and wave to her from the front. She has a mirror in the back so I can see her. So any of you experience this fear of the dark in the car? She did this one other time. Makes it hard to go anywhere far at night.

  • DD hates the car all together, but especially when its dark.  We have tried singing to her and talking and turning on the interior lights, but nothing has placated her yet.

  • Our problem is that she gets mad when its dark because she can't see her toys! If we are going far and I know she won't sleep, I sit with her so I can turn on the light in the back.

i just thought of this... What if your LO had a toy that lights up at night and only gets to play with it in the car? We have car only toys and because she doesn't see them all the time it's like they are always new...hahahaha!

  • When I read reviews for the Fisher Price Seahorse, I saw that several people used it for the car instead/in addition to bedtime. It lasts pretty long, but definitely not for a whole car ride. Once LO could figure out how to make it glow again, it might be more helpful. I agree with PP that it might be easier to find toys that glow to help calm LO down during dark car rides. I know that some of the back seat mirrors also come with a remote control or manual light around it. That also might soothe your LO.
