Placenta previa

Had an unplanned u/s today because of some bleeding and discovered I have a mild case of placenta previa. The doctor thinks that it'll clear up. I'm glad to have a reason for the bleeding last night! Any BTDT moms have experience with placenta previa?

Re: Placenta previa

  • I had a very slight placenta previa with DD early on, and it moved up plenty by delivery day.

  • Please forgive me but what does BTDT stand for?  I've seen it on a few posts so far and it isn't in the glossary.

Glad you were able to have a diagnosis for the bleeding!  Hope it clears up for you!

  • I had it last pregnancy, didn't have any bleeding throught. And at my 32 week ultrasound it corrected its self! Had a good vaginal birth at 37 weeks!
  • Yes, I went in at 20 weeks with my son and discovered it. The doctor told me the same thing, not to worry and it should clear up. I never had bleeding though. At 28 weeks I believe we went in for another ultrasound and it was gone.

  • I was told that I have it as well. They said it usually goes away on its own. They said to wait until the anatomy scan to see if it is a problem or if it went away.

  • It's super early to be diagnosing PP. I'd write it off for now and see what they say at your anatomy scan.

  • I had it with my first and didn't find out until 22 weeks. Mine was partial and I was put on lifting and pelvic restrictions. It moved up and out of the way by the time I delivered so all was good, but I ended up with a c-section for other reasons anyway. Usually as the baby moves down, it pushes the placenta up and away from the cervical opening, but if it doesn't things can get complicated. Sounds like it usually takes care of itself though...good luck!
  • I was at the emergency clinic Sunday night they said I had that too. It seems to have stopped bleeding. My doc said I was fine and it should clear up on its own. I was however told not to put anything in there or have sex for a month. Said to take it easy
  • Both pregnancies I had a low lying placenta and mild preevia.. With DS it went away around 20w. With this pregnancy it was still low at my appt Wed, 14w, but had moved a lot so they are hopeful that at my next check at 18w it will have moved up completely.

I am just on pelvic rest and instructed not to lift heavy objects until it moves. For me it's because I'm small and my tummy takes time to grow.
