Waking to Practice Crawling

Anyone else dealing with this? DS and I had a great rhythm going. It took 20 minutes to get him into the crib for the night, still awake but drowsy. He'd fall asleep on his own and it was great.

Now he's constantly up on hands and knees rocking back and forth or up on his toes with his butt way up in the air. He cries when he gets to the end of his crib, gets an arm or leg, or both legs stuck out. It's terrible! He went to sleep fine tonight at 7pm. And has been awake for two hours going all over his crib but getting frustrated shuffling his little knees around and falling on his face. I've had to go in and calm him down 4 times after hitting his head, getting both legs stuck out, or being just frustrated.

I didn't think I'd ever say this at 5.5 months, but I hope he figures out crawling soon so it's not so interesting to do in his crib!

Re: Waking to Practice Crawling

  • We use a breathable bumper so the baby can't get his arms/legs stuck. They can still hit their head but at least there is a little bit of something there. DS1 got his arm stuck so bad one day when I was washing the bumper that I had to use oil to help me get his arm out. He also started crawling and pulling up at 6 months. Then we had to teach him how to get down from the side of his crib when he pulled himself up. It's always something.

  • DD is not close to crawling yet. She usually wakes about 3-5 times a night, but can sometimes calm herself and go back to sleep. For the past few nights though, she's started crying loudly and when I go in her room, she's on her belly. She gets really upset & can't calm herself. I'm not sure why she doesn't just roll back over, hopefully she'll figure it out soon!
