I don't know what kind of crib you have, but if they're straight rails, like a traditional Eurostyle crib, Ikea sells snap on protectors for like $5. We have an Ikea crib and popped them on when we set up the crib. Super easy and they've stayed on great.
I did exactly this. It's been on for about 6 weeks or so now and it's holding up very well. I did an extra layer of fleece folded underneath so there are actually three layers of fleece. It is awesome. Because of the shape of the sides of LO's crib, the rubbery ones would not have workes for us. I highly recommend this method. Also, there are some gorgeous, albeit pricey, options floating around Etsy.

We bought one for each side when we bought the crib. A friend with a kid came over and asked what they were, lol.

Here. I think there is another one floating around that might be a littler sturdier than this but this is the one I pinned.

Brilliant! I laughed at first...silly countrygirl, I don't have a sewing machine! Then you find a no sew! Thanks!
lol.
I do sew but sewing on fleece isn't always fun so I will be doing the no sew as well. Plus, way faster and easier.
