December 2012 Moms

Don't come yet baby! I'm not ready.

I see a lot of posts saying that the OP is ready to be done being pregnant or just can't wait to see their LO. Recently, I've seen a couple saying that the OP likes being pregnant and is going to miss it.

What I haven't seen is posts where people are saying that they want to stay pregnant for a little longer because they have too much prep work to do. Am I the only one in this boat?

We just got our furniture (been waiting since early August) so we're just starting to set up the nursery now. There are a bunch of other things that were waiting on the furniture (it wasn't just nursery stuff) so now we're scrambling to set up a good portion of our house, actually. I have to prep the LO's cloth diapers and wash the LO's clothes - they're all new with tags on them except the hand-me-downs - and clean the baby items we're borrowing (pack n play, bouncer, etc.) We need to put a bunch of baby gear together (high chair, swing, etc.) even if we're not using it right away so that we know we have all the pieces and it's not defective before the return period runs out. On top of that, we need to decorate for Christmas, wrap Christmas gifts, and do the Christmas baking (we gift baked goods to some people). Oh, and all the normal cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc. to keep the house going.

I usually work till 7 or 8 at night (sometimes later). I'm 38 weeks today, and we just don't have time for it all! I'd love to meet LO in theory, but right now mommy and daddy need some more time to power through chores. I hope I don't go late, but I also hope I don't go too early!

I have to confess - I had false labor last night and nearly panicked. Please tell me that I'm not the only one that feels way behind and wants a bit more time to try and catch up. :)

Re: Don't come yet baby! I'm not ready.

  • I go back and forth between the two extremes. Even though my due date is tomorrow (YIKES) I have too much work left to do at work, so I hope she holds off until at least this weekend.

  • You are not the only one.  I still have a few things I need to get done before LO arrives.  I also really, really want some time to relax alone before he arrives.  Friday is my last day of work so I am hoping that if he is to come early he waits until next Wednesday to give me some time.

  • i pretty much feel the same way- while i am a little tired of being pregnant and all the braxton-hicks i am having, i know life is a million times easier right now.

i am also still working, still taking care of my kids. we just sold our house and the buyers want to close on dec 21 (due date is dec 22). we bought a new house that needs work before we can move in, my husband and mom are working on it like crazy so we can move in 1.5 weeks, haha.

i am skipping holiday cards til the new year, after the baby is here.  i still have some baking to do (i also gift baked goods).

our baby will have a nursery when she gets it. if she sleeps in a pack in play for 2 months, so be it!  right now her new room at our new house is completely unpainted, and i just ordered a crib but have no mattress, sheets, dresser, or changing pad for her.

so- you're not alone. i also had a lot of contractions last night and had the same thought- NOT YET!!!!

Do you have weekends free? I would devote some time to nesting and enjoying what you need to do!

Honestly you don't need most things from the get go. Dipes can be prepped later. Personally I find laundry the easiest thing to do because you can fold in front of the tv etc. I would break it into small tasks. It would take a max of ten minutes to wipe down all the funriture. I would start loads of laundry and leave it to fold at the nd of the day in front of the tv. Breaking each task into pieces will help.

You're not the only one who's panicked! But just break it into really small chunks!

I would consider hiring a cleaning lady for a day to scratch that off your list too!

  • No, you're not the only one for sure. We finally put the crib together this past weekend, but I'm waiting for the crib sheets to arrive from PBK... She'll probably be in the PnP or RnP for a while, so I'm not terribly worried, but I do feel a bit bad too. After a visit to the hospital this morning, my SO is finally making me pack the hospital bag tonight and install the car seat. I'm sort of counting on her not being here for 2 weeks...

  • We decided to skip the holiday baking this year, and instead are giving mixes in a jar...hot cocoa and cookie mix...it's quicker than baking, but it's still personal and something that our friends can enjoy. You can find tons of recipes for stuff like that on Pinterest if your'e interested..might save you a little time since you can make some of it (the cocoa, for example) in huge batches and then just dole it out to individual jars

  • I feel the same way. I think I'm getting close to be ready for this little girl to arrive. I just submitted my last paper for this class and I'm done. I have 9 more days until my c-section, so I'm planning to finish cleaning and decorating my house for Christmas. I also want to have one last date night with my DH this weekend. So many things to do in so little time.

  • You are definitely not the only one. My anxiety level is soooo high right now because we are in the process of buying a house and haven't gotten a response yet if we are approved or not. Our landlady needs her house back so i don't even know where will be when LO arrives. I have the bags packed but thats it. I am hoping to have news on the house by this friday. In seven days we have to pick up the babys furniture but we can't set it up until we finally have a place.  By now I usually have all my Christmas decorations up but I haven't done anything.  So I do not mind if LO takes his time to come ;)

  • I have my major "to do" list on the fridge, and with each accomplishment I can exhale a little bit more. I still have a bunch of things I'd like to get done before baby arrives.

Today was a killer day so far: DMV for updated license (yup, new photo 37 wks PG), last monthly blood draw for platelet check, story hour w/DD2, & picked up a present for my godson at a framing store all by 12:30. I've got a haircut at 4 and tomorrow we're seeing Santa. WOOHOO, the list is getting smaller!

  • I'm in the same boat! DH has finals until next Wednesday and then we can really devote time to finish the nursery (I need his help with it) and the last minute things that we want to do before she comes. Also, I'd really like to do a nice date night one last time before doing so becomes more complicated.

So, as excited as I'm to meet her, next weekend would work best for me, ;)

  • I go back and forth...I want her here so bad but I need more time to clean/organize/etc.  I feel like I am never going to be prepared as I would like, even if she is a week late. I had planned on freezing meals...hasn't happened.  Still need to finish my Christmas shopping and wrap everything, deep clean every inch of my house, hang pictures in her room, etc. etc. etc.  Time is flying by!

  • No, you are definitely not alone. I'll be 37 weeks Friday and I still feel like I have a ton to do. I'm going to be a single Mommy, but my family and my best friend have been totally awesome! My bestie gave me a bassinet so my LO will at least have a place to sleep if his room isn't ready when he comes.

His room was decorated with pink florals by the previous owner of my home and after deciding not to paint and just remove the pink floral border, we discovered that she had border there before and paint over border, so looks like we will be painting after all!

My OB says we are inducing on the 19th, so I'm trying not to stress to much about what's not done and just focus on him getting here and the rest will just fall into place.

  • You're SO not alone!!!

While I am VERY excited to meet this little girl and anxious to get it over with, I must not go early!!! I can only take 7 weeks leave, and do not have daycare until March 1st... so even with a week over due (which I am hoping for) I need to find somewhere to take her for a week!! If I go early I might have several weeks I need covered!

Also is it just me, or is anyone else hoping they do not have their baby on Christmas? I am hoping I go into Jan to space the holiday out from her Bday as much as I can. (Due Dec31)

  • I felt similarly until last week at 35 weeks. We still had to get the dresser/changing table and were waiting for the dresser knobs to come in and most of the items we purchased off our registry that we needed and we were waiting for our crib to be delivered. Then, over the past 1.5 weeks all those things got done and I felt a lot better. Now we just have to finish accessorizing/decorating the nursery, but I don't think I care if that gets finished before LO arrives.

I am still stressed about Christmas and haven't written or sent out any of my cards (I've addressed and stamped most) or purchased any but 1 gift. This is my next focus. DH isn't worried at all about gifts b/c he thinks everyone will be understanding if they're late/something easier. While i decorated inside for Christmas we still have to get and put up the tree and christmas lights. *sigh* it'll all get done....probably. =)
