~*~DE/DEmbryo/GC Check-in~*~

This group is open to anyone who has already gone through donor egg/donor embryo/gestational carrier, is in the process of it, or plans on doing it in the future.

This check-in posted each Tuesday.  If you?d like to be added to this group, please reply to this message, and I?ll make sure to add you for next week.  Welcome to the lurkers!  We know this can be a difficult journey, but we welcome you with open arms.  Let us know if we can answer any questions.

GRADUATES ARE WELCOME AND ENCOURAGED TO POST!

FACEBOOK GROUP: Yellow_Daisy has restarted a PRIVATE Facebook group (meaning no one can see it in your feed, that you are a member, etc.) for the ladies from IF and SAIF who are using/have used donor eggs/embryos or donor sperm.  If you would like to join, please page Yellow_Daisy and ask for an invite to the group.  This might be a nice way to keep in touch in a more private setting and address issues that may arise down the road.

Status Update: Where are you currently with the DE/DEmbryo/ GC process?

QOTW: What is your favorite beauty product?

Huge hugs to happywifemomofone! You have been through too much, and I hope the perfect donor is right around the corner.

Great to hear the update on your lining check ceemonkey! All the best with your transfer!!

Hugs to Sophistikitty on your new diagnosis. So proud of you for plowing ahead!

BabyVDM ? It does seem like these eggs were just meant for you! Good luck with your phone consult!

SuzanneJesse ? Sounds like you are covering all your bases. It makes sense that it?s frustrating to wonder if these changes could have been made before your last cycle. We wish you all the best moving forward!

Sorry the month was long BeckyP005! We are all here for you. The DE BFN?s are rough on all of us. I remember my IF therapist telling me that this is a marathon, and I know I definitely felt it. It is exhausting. I just had to put one foot in front of the other. We do have odds on our side, and a lot of people have success with their first cycle.

Hoping for continued encouraging news chicagobride_07! Sorry you had to go through the bleeding scare. That sounds awful, but glad everything is OK.

Hugs to Mrs.McIrish. It?s so hard to move forward when you are struggling to find hope. Sorry you have to have surgery. Hang in there Sweetie!

Sorry for the delay and barriers liz4paws but yay for all the progress you?re making!

Re: ~*~DE/DEmbryo/GC Check-in~*~

  • Hi there. I'm new to this check-in. I may try one more OE IVF but I have a weird and serious egg maturity issue (see siggy) so it's looking like there's a more than even chance I'll end up going the DE route. I'm a bit daunted at the moment but I think I'll be excited and without regrets when I finally get there. God knows I'm ready to move forward out of this IF purgatory.

I've already started looking at DE profiles at agencies. After I looked at some with my husband this weekend, he said it made him feel a lot more comfortable with and open to the process. Unfortunately, quite a few agencies seemed to have a lot of really chintzy profiles (e.g., really bad self-submitted photos; did these agencies even actually meet with the potential donors?). There's only one agency I've found so far that seems to have a fair number of promising profiles with lots of info, very straightforward pictures clearly taken by representatives of the agency, and so on. If anyone has recs for good agencies preferably on the East Coast I'd really appreciate hearing them you can PM me if you'd prefer.

My clinic has its own DE program but the waiting list is 6-8 months long, which is why I think we'd go the agency route. Please don't flame me for this, but I'd also prefer to see photos if possible, which is another reason I prefer to go through an agency. I totally understand why some would prefer not to see photos at all. I'm not looking for a beauty (really  -- I swear what gets my husband truly excited about a profile is the phrase "high standardized test scores," lol)  but for some reason I really just want to know what she looks like. Anyway, thanks for listening to me ramble. I know a lot of you lovely ladies from TTC After 35 and this board, and I'm rooting for you.

  • Update: Everything is going well so far with my cycle. I'm still on BCP's.  I have my baseline check on 12/28 and then will start estrogen if everything looks good.  Our transfer is still set for 1/21.  I had my first mammogram today (I'm 35 but have a strong family history of breast cancer).  It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

QOTW: I asked about this because it's on my mind lately.  I started getting some facial treatments to help me feel better about my appearance especially due to the weight I've gained.  I got a chemical peel on Monday, so at this point I look kind of crazy because my skin is all peeling off, but overall I think it will be worth it.  I really like the facialist I found.  It's relaxing and makes me feel like I'm doing something positive for myself.

  • Hi Everyone,

Hey Brooke, welcome, and best of luck.  I think someone said picking the donor was the hardest part of this process.  I think that's probably true.  I needed to see a photograph, I wasn't looking for beauty, just someone who looked like one of my cousins or nieces.  I also wanted to see a face so I'd recognize it later as the years go on.  I think it's whatever you are more comfortable with.

Good Luck Glueck!  Looking forward to the updates next week.

Becky I hope you hear back from your clinic soon and move up the waiting list at lightening speed.

McIrish, hoping your surgery goes well tomorrow.  Good Luck

JM1977 - Mammograms aren't so bad. fingerscrossed there is nothing there.

STATUS UPDATE:   Just got off the phone.  Our consult with the doctor has been rescheduled until next Tuesday.  He is sick today.  I'm okay with that.  We spoke to the nurse co-ordinator who went over briefly the next steps for us.  I will be starting BCP with my next cycle.  DH's SA is scheduled for the 13th but because of our schedules we will fly to seattle on the weekend so he can provide his 'goods' to be frozen and wait for the SA results.  Hopefully everything will work out and embryos can be made in early January.  Looks like we are looking at a February.  I'm okay with that too.

Other than that, our chosen donor is a carrier of a recessive genetic mutation. So DH will be tested and if he is not a carrier we will be moving forward.

I am a breast cancer survivor.  Nurse co-ordinator mentioned that the Dr might have some concerns because my cancer was estrogen and progesterone receptive.  But I have been clear for 2 years now and no one here has expressed any concern about my becoming pregnant.  I am hoping that they will not stop us now.  I'll sign any release form they need.  I'm willing to take the risk.  If the damn cancer robs me of this chance I don't know what I'll do.

QOTW: SAY YES TO BLUEBERRIES facial creams and wash.  They make my skin glow and feel great.  It is all natural, and has no ingredients that are known to be harmful and/or increase the risk of cancer (big concern of mine obviously).

  • Brooklyn - Good luck on finding the right program for you and YH.

Gluek - Every single ounce of me is wishing you SO MUCH LUCK! I'm keeping you in my thoughts, and crossing my fingers that your embryos grow and you have a great transfer on Sunday.

Mrs. McIrish - Good luck with your hysteroscopy tomorrow. I hope you have an easy procedure and you are back to your normal self quickly.

JM1977 - So glad your mammogram went better than you expected!

BabyVDM - Sorry about the reschedule and the hassle. FX for a good cycle!

Strudel - We had the same struggle when we decided to move to DEmbryo. We went to a psychologist that the RE recommended, and it was such a great wealth of information on how to move forward with the fact that they were not genetically related to us. If you haven't already, maybe see if your RE has anyone who specializes in donor situations - hopefully it might help!

    Our update:

We finally found an RE that will do our FET with our DEmbryos despite the dumb FDA problem that we ran into. We have a consult on Thurs Dec 13 and hopefully will be able to set up some cycle dates.

QOTW: I am obsessed with nail polish. I love the Sinful brand that you get at Walgreens for dirt cheap. I've bought many more expensive brands in my life, and Sinful stands up to them for a fraction of the cost. I usually do my own manicures at home, but love getting pedicures in a salon.

  • GL to everyone starting the process in the New Year!

Status Update: Where are you currently with the DE/DEmbryo/ GC process?  I went in for a third ultrasound yesterday.  Things are on track and I am about 8 weeks.  I still worry every day; hopefully this will let up after the 12 week mark.  I go to a very "old school" RE who also delivers babies for his IVF patients, and manages high risk pregnancies.  DH and I talked about moving over to my regular OB/GYN (I realize at some point most people "graduate") but I really don't think I'll get this level of attention elsewhere.  My regular OB/GYN practice is huge- 12 docs and there is no guarantee on who will deliver the baby (it would be whomever was on call).  So, we will be sticking with our RE throughout the pregnancy.  Fingers crossed everything continues to go well.

QOTW: What is your favorite beauty product?  I love anything by Clarins.  It's done wonders for my skin.

  • Status Update:  We signed all the consents and agreements etc.  DH has dropped the boys off at the lab and they were frozen.  The clinic is ready to thaw the DEs and fertilize once they receive payment (which will be by the end of this week).  Our phone counsult with the Dr is this afternoon.  I should be starting BCP with CD1 in the next 4 or 5 days!  We will get our calendar at that point, but it looks like I will start Lupron the first week of January and FET in the early part of February!   I'm cautiously optimistic and excited.
