Pillow and blanket in crib?

Did you give your LO a pillow and a blanket yet?

DS hates blankets and doesn't like to be covered by anything in general, so I think we'll wait a few more months. I am just wondering when and how I'll know that he's ready.

Right now he only has a cuddle blanket (breathable) and the glow seahorse in his crib.

Re: Pillow and blanket in crib?

  • We started with a thin A and A swaddle blanket for a few months, but since we live in Alaska [2 more months of this...yay!!!] we had to give him a thicker blanket. He does gone with them and usually stays under them most of the time. I was curious about a pillow because I think he would like it, but I'm not sure how that would go so I will probably just leave it out for awhile longer.

  • I started giving LO a crotchet blanket a few weeks ago. Since it is loosely knitted with holes throughout, he can still breathe through it. I haven't gave him a pillow yet, but sometimes he ends up wadding his blanket up and laying his head on it or using his build a bear puppy dog as a pillow. I will probably put a pillow in soon. He does ok with the blanket for a while, but never has it on him in the morning. He is super squirmy and changes positions a lot at night.

  • We give DS a fleece blanket.  He knows that things don't go over his head.  While we take a nap and when he wakes up he takes off anything near my face.

  • Lo has had a blanket for about 2 months now. We live in Mn, pretty cold.
  • He wears a fleece sleep sack.  I think I will stick to just the sleep sack for another year. No pillows until then either.

  • E has a crochet blanket that she sleeps with but no pillow.  Our house is old and it gets really cold here!

  • No pillow but he has had a blanket in his crib since he was about 7 months old.  He has stuffed animals in there too.  In my opinion, they are ready when they can lift their head, roll and get away from a situation that would cause harm.

  • She wears a fleece sleepsack.  No pillow yet.  For naps I give her a blanket but I'm not ready to give her one overnight yet.

  • We have always used a little blanket, he rarely keeps it on his whole body he turns so much. He's not nearly ready for a pillow, not sure when we'll introduce that.
  • We've been using a blanket for about 2 months now - no pillows.  I've never gone in and its been anywhere near his head - he usually kicks it off.  Although DH swears he sleeps better when he has a blanket in there - I'm not so sure about it!

  • M has always slept with some type of blanket. For the past few months she's been sleeping with her cotton weave blanket (it's her "lovey") and also her comforter from her crib set. No pillow yet, although lately she spins around and bunches up the comforter under her head.. so I'm wondering if she would like a pillow? She just got a mini pillow pet for her birthday so maybe I'll put that in there lol.

She also sleeps with her build a bear (her other "lovey") and her glow seahorse and now she's been sleeping with her stuffed giraffe she got for her birthday.

It's mainly when your comfortable :)

  • DD is OBSESSED with her blanket. It's crocheted and she has been sleeping with it since 4 months. I was nervous the first 3 months cause she always put it over her face but it was the only way she could put herself to sleep. Now everytime we go in the nursery she goes straight to her crib to pull it out. Once she pulls it out of the slats she lays on the floor, buries her face in it and giggles.

  • No pillow yet.  We still use his fleece sleep sack.  He moves around so much at night that he'd never bee able to keep a blanket on. For now the sleep sack still works great, so we're going to stick to that for a little while.

  • We've been using a blanket for a while now.  Once he was pretty mobile (and started sleeping face down in the mattress) I stopped worrying about it.  At this point they can get away from something that is making them uncomfortable--like if he couldn't breath he could turn his head or move himself.  He usually kicks it off, but sometimes it gets chilly in our house.  I don't plan on giving him a pillow anytime soon--not for any particular reason though.

  • No pillow, but he's been using a blanket for a couple of months.  He uses one that is crochet, so it's full of holes and an A&A swaddle blanket.  Both are breathable.
  • Josephine has had a blanket since nearly birth.  We added a pillow in September.  She seems to love both.  She also has two stuffed animals, a bear and a Mickey Mouse.

I'm of the school of thought that once the littles can lift their heads, and maybe move a little, they are in no real danger. My biggest issue is her trying to climb out of the crib... she's done it twice... she fell out both times.  We're on the lowest settings... so, I see toddler bed in our near future.
