Christmas Party for Specific Employees Only (NBR)

Okay so I have been at my job for over five years now and we have an office party every year:

1st year - Fancy Country Club Buffet Style

2nd year - Upscale Restuarant Buffet Style

3rd, 4th & 5th year - pot luck at the office

This year - Dessert

This party is for all employees and each year it is getting smaller and smaller which is fine........but then there is an Exclusive party for all of the Supervisors, Account Executives, Marketing Department, etc.....pretty much every one except the account managers (me) are invited. The exclusive party is all inclusive food/alcohol etc.Always has been/always will be. Invitation is not based on meeting goals, it is strictly based on your title. 

Do you think it is fair to single people out like that?  We all work under the same roof, in the same office and work towards the same goals.

I personally think it sends the message that we are not as important as they are - just my opinion.

    I am not sure- does the company pay for that smaller party or is it someone who supervises all those ppl that sponsors it? I have a full office party & then there is also one that is the direct reports of my boss... also MH's boss hosts a party at his home for his direct reports. I don't have a problem w/ either of those but both are paid for by the boss as a gift to the direct reports.  If the company pays for both & has scaled back on the big one quite considerably and not at all for the small one that is definitely really elitist.

    I think the point of holiday parties is to build community within the work place and for morale... Excluding people goes against all of that! Not right at all!

     The company used to pay for the smaller partires but once it became potluck , the company would pay for the "meat" and all the employees (the account managers) would make a dish and bring it in. Come to think of it, the "big wigs" of the company would just come in and attend the party, eat the food that we made and they dont contribute a thing!!

    Confused- by smaller party I meant the one for the higher ups b/c I thought the main potluck party was for everyone.  Does the company pay for their party or does the CEO or some person pay for it out of their own pocket?

    Sorry - I guess when you said "smaller" I assumed "smaller title people".  The company pays for the party for the higher ups....actually they invite OUTSIDE companies who we work with as well (people I correspond with on a daily basis).....they just dont invite the small people who work in our office.. I work for a very large agency with 100's of locations. They pay to fly people in for the "big wig" party.....but we get a platter of chocolates for our party this year!

    Aw, I wouldnt call anyone 'smaller' ppl! LOL. 

    But I do get why that would annoy you- I think if they're going to fly clients in, which is really a marketing tool, that the group of employees invited to that should be pretty small OR everyone, not everyone but a small group of people who are ranked 'lower', that seems a little exclusive but it sounds like it is more about the client relationships than the company personnel?
