Pre-School and Daycare

Radom Poll: Did you go to preschool?

Really no point to this poll rather than curiosity!  It just seems that preschool is more popular now than when I was that age.

  • Yes and I was in it for 2 years just like my kids are doing

  • No. My sister and I stayed with grandma until I started kindergarten. I was painfully shy and didn't talk to any of the other kids my whole kinder year. DD1 has a similar personality to me, but she was in a daycare center from 3 months on, then public 4K. She has done awesome in school, and I attribute it to her daycare experience. I think she would have struggled if she had been home with me or a nanny.

  • Yes - I went to a 1/2 day nursery school in the early 70's.

When I was a teenager, we had neighbors who's 4 yo had awful, awful separtion anxiety from him mom when he started kindergarten.  He had only been away from him mother a handful of times and honestly, his experience and the mother's especially kinda scarred me.  It was so terrible and traumatic for everyone involved.

  • I did (can't remember if it was one or two years) but none of my other three siblings went.  My brother (2 years older) started preschool but my parents pulled him out due to a stuttering problem (seems like not a good move).  My two younger sisters didn't go at all.

  • Yup! I actually went to a Montessori preschool from when I was potty trained at 2 until I started kindergarten in a regular public school. I wish I could remember more of it!

  • I'm the special snowflake (the first time I ever voted that way). I started pre school but it didn't go so well and I was asked to leave. I had terrible anxiety being away from my Mom and I didn't do the rest time thing well (I vividly remember blue cots for rest time). I was perfectly happy to be home with her (my 4 siblings were in school) but my Mom always told me she was worried I didn't have the interaction with kids. I can see her point. I can also realize now that the woman could have used the damn peace and quiet for a bit! I wish I could tell her "oops, sorry!" now. It's sort of the family joke that I was a preschool drop out....but was able to finish a master's degree so i think it's all good. lol

  • Nope.  Was at home with my mom till kindergarten (required K).  But then I'm 39 and I don't think preschool was as popular back then as it is now.  I think Americans are trying to get an edge and are participating in educational efforts more and earlier than before.
