Wooden blocks

Sorry I've been MIA for the last couple of months because my parents are here visiting. But here I am again with question.

A friend of ours wants to buy E wooden blocks for Christmas. If your LO have a set, does he/she have the colored version or the plain? I'm thinking that they make some plain for a reason? Is it because the paint can chip when they gnaw on it?

Re: Wooden blocks

  • E has both and likes both. They are all mixed in together and she hasn't shown my preference.

  • And welcome back and E has never gnawed on her blocks for some reason. Maybe wood taste bad?

  • We don't have them yet but MIL got them wooden blocks for Christmas. I decided to go with the Melissa & Doug plain old blocks. No colors. I thought that the kids have so many brightly colored things already, I go back to the basics with the blocks.

  • We have painted ones.. Not sure which but I got them off amazon and they had a ton of high reviews. Mother goose or something like that?

Anyways, A always has toys in his mouth. I swear he puts everything in there but not the blocks.. He did once and that was about it. Like PP said, maybe they taste bad.

  • We went with colored so we could do sorting and stuff when she gets older. Do you remember the old ABC blocks that had the painted letter on two sides and an embossed picture on the others? Those really did taste bad...I still remember it! They were probably full of lead, too.

  • L "plays" with her blocks by standing them all on end like Stonehenge. If you try to stack them horizontally it is just WRONG.

  • We have the Garanimals wooden blocks and R does not try to eat them.  He only likes to chew on stuffed animals.
