2nd Trimester

flutters now no flutters

I'm a STM I have felt flutters since 11 wks. They got stronger last week at 14 wks. But NOWWWWW I'm going on 16 and have felt NOTHING for the past two days. Has this happened to anyone else?
I called my nurse and she said she isn't worried about it until 16 wks WHICH IS SATURDAY! LOL so that didn't make me feel better. But I do have my 16 Wk check up on Monday. She told me to lie down still drink something sweet to get the baby moving. She says baby is probably hiding behind the placenta.
What should I drink? I'm not a sweets person. I'm drinking a Pepsi and it hasn't done anything.

Re: flutters now no flutters

  • I at least thought I felt flutters around 12-13 weeks then nothing. At 16 weeks I began feeling them again and now it is consistent! Don't worry, I'm sure all is fine!

  • flutters at 11 weeks? Huh?

either way..... kick counts don't really start till around 26ish weeks (someone can correct me on that)

I started feeling movement at 16 weeks and there are days I won't feel anything all day until night time.

But to answer your question, drink some cold water or orange juice

It is different for everyone for feeling baby movements. I'm very intuned with my body and I'm small boned. So yes I was feeling flutters early.
But thanks! Im going to try ice water and or OJ. I'm sure I'm fine LOL I just would feel better if I felt baby like I had been.

It's quite common for STM to feel flutters sooner than FTM. I've been feeling them since about 10 weeks. To the OP- I think the movements just have to be strong enough for us to feel them, so we don't feel them every day, or every time just yet. I don't feel them every day either.

  • It's normal to feel flutters early on and then nothing.  Once you get further along, they should become more regular, stronger, and you might even notice a pattern of when the LO is active every day.

  • Your LO is probably moving and you just dont feel it! Since you say your fairly small and intune with your body rub your tummy after drinking or eating something sweet! You will be fine!

  • I wouldn't worry at all that early on. I had flutters and then pretty much nothing for nearly 2 weeks. At my u/s I found out I had an anterior placenta, which made sense (I'm a STM too so I was expecting earlier and more frequent movement, and it hasn't even been close to LO #1).
  • I am a STM and felt some flutters around 13 weeks but nothing consistent until about 18 to 20 weeks. Try not to worry this soon and try to relax. Easier said then done I know. As for something to drink, OJ, water or juice. Also I notice I feel LO more when I sit down and do nothing.

  • I first felt baby at 15w3 days. I am now 17w5d and still do not feel baby every day. The other day he thumped and bumped about for a good 3-4 minutes and that is the most I have felt him. I did not feel him for a few days before that and only felt one little thump today. I wouldn't be too worried. I just reassure my baby is okay by using the doppler I have.
  • I wouldn't worry until later into 2nd tri at all. I felt this babe at 12 weeks and then only here and there until much later into 2nd tri. For the nurse to even tell you she would be worried at 16 weeks is dumb. Don't worry. Don't do anything extra to make baby move, it IS moving, you just can't feel it right now. You will. This one is killing me. She's all freaking elbows and knees right now.

  • I'm a 3rd time mom and started feeling flutters at 13 weeks.  They have gotten stronger and more frequent as the weeks progress, but there were several days I wouldn't feel anything until I hit 17 weeks.  Now I feel tons of movement every day.  I know it's hard not to worry, but I'm sure baby is fine and you will start feeling him/her again soon!

  • Your nurse told you they worry about lack of movement at 16 weeks?  Sorry, I call bs or your misunderstood her.  MOST people haven't felt a whisper of movement by 16 weeks, never mind consistent movement.

  • It is very common for it to be sporadic at this stage- I started feeling flutters early on too, now it's more like every 2nd or 3rd day, and usually when I'm curled up on the couch or in bed, or leaning over to get something.

  • At 16 weeks, it's pretty early for any movement, especially consistent movement. It's perfectly normal not to feel anything for a few days at this point. Try not to worry - you will feel LO again soon enough!

  • It's different for everyone.  I was at my a/s on Monday, and my boy was flailing about but I felt nothing.  My doc said some people don't even feel anything until 21 weeks.  She said she didn't feel anything with her first until 23 weeks!

  • My doctor doesn't expect consistent, predictable movement until 25ish weeks. I know it can be nervewracking, but I would try to relax. Keep in mind that most people are still feeling nothing at this point.

  • I wouldn't worry. I barely felt flutters at 17 weeks to around 19 weeks.  If and when I did it was when I was laying very still at night.  Now I swear she has a trampoline she is using to do gymnastics in there.

  • I didn't feel ANYTHING until 18 weeks.  Then I felt something like a bubble popping halfway through week 18 and then nothing else until the first day of week 20.  I was actually at my 20 week ultrasound.  I saw the little guy kick on the screen and then felt it too!  After that I felt a few more that week but not much.  I didn't start feeling something every day until week 22 or 23.  Everyone is different!

  • I felt flutters with DS at 5 weeks, and continued to feel them as they got stronger.

With this pregnancy, I first felt flutters at 13 weeks, and then nothing from 14-17 weeks.  Then from there, she has never stopped moving.

Because it is so early, there is a decent probability that the baby has just moved into a  position where you can't feel the squirming (most likely is facing your back).

Good luck at your appt. on Monday.
