LO's current schedule is bottle at 8, 2, and 8. He eats 3 meals at the same time we do. Is it reasonable to drop the 2 pm bottle and offer formula that formula in a cup at lunch & dinner, as well as whenever he wants in the afternoon? Am I getting the right idea?
For some reason this bottle to cup transition is confusing me, as you're supposed to get them off the bottle but still offer a good amount of milk in some way.
*edit* Forgot to mention this is what I tried Sunday. He just took 3, maybe 4 oz. at lunch and only 1 oz. at dinner. I gave the sippy cup to my Grandmother to try again today but she didn't seem to get the point and just gave him all the formula in a bottle she had on hand. *sigh* Thanks grandma! Anyway, didn't know if that was typical, or if he'll get the hang of it as time goes.
Re: weaning to cup
Until his first birthday you just want to get about 21oz of formula into him. You can offer that formula at meals in a cup or in bottles. Once he is a year old, you can just offer milk during meal times. If he's really into his bottle for naps and bedtime, I would give those until at least 15 months.
When he goes to milk, try to stick around 16oz to 21oz a day of dairy. Whati did was offered a big cup of milk (8oz) in the morning and 4oz with meals and he got water other times. It's important they have water readily available at all times once they are a year old.
does this help at all?
