Pregnant after 35

So much for surprising my grandmother

M?m? strikes again!

We were going to make a surprise announcement at Thanksgiving to let the extended family know about the baby. The night before, however, my immediate family met at my grandparents' house for an informal dinner. I walk 2 feet into the house and my 96 year old grandmother asks me if I have anything I want to tell her. "No? You're not pregnant?" I can't lie to the woman, so I just say, "Um, I'll tell you later; I don't want to talk about girlie things with all these men around. It would just embarrass them and it's kind of private." M?m? then asked my dad, my mom, and my sister if I was pregnant.

After we made the announcement at Thanksgiving dinner, I asked my grandmother how she knew. She said, "I took one look at your belly and I just knew."

It's not like I'm tiny and I had suddenly gotten a belly-- she somehow picked up on the very subtle redistribution and slight firming up of my belly fat towards the front and center position.

You can't put anything past a blind 96 year old Italian grandmother, apparently!
