Lunchbox snacks

I am kinda stuck with snacks to put in DD's lunch box everyday. I tend to have the same things on rotation and am looking for new ideas. Some of the things she eats now are cereal (cheerios, kix, wheeties) with freeze dried fruit, whole grain goldfish, mini rice cakes, kashi fruit filled bars, fruit, trader joe's mini whole wheat crackers and cheese. I'd like to pack healthy snacks, but I am running out of ideas.

Re: Lunchbox snacks

  • Some other snacks my DD likes are cheese sticks, applesauce, greek yogurt with fruit, fig newtons, and crackers with hummus, guacamole, or peanut butter.

  • I just typed up a response to this and the Bump ate it.

Yogurt as a snack, maybe with graham crackers to dip

    Olives

    Roll up with Hummus

Roll up with PB and banana (if you do PB)

Fruit and veggie smoothie (I use banana, frozen blueberries and spinach)

Applesauce (I buy the organic unsweetened kind and put cinnamon in it)

  • Have you looked on Pinterest?  I've got some stuff pinned on there, but there are already some good ideas posted here.  C LOVES roasted veggies w/ olive oil S&P.  He downed about 5 baby carrots last night.  They are good cold as well.

  • Thanks all. She does have Greek yogurt everyday and loves tortillas with cheese. I will need to try bell peppers and hummus. She used to love peppers, but I haven't given her any in a while.

My kids love yogurt covered raisins and cranberries. I'd like to know how so many of you get your kids to eat veggies like that! My kids will eat fruit like its going out of style, but if they even see a veg they freak. I've always made and offered veggies from the beginning. They have NEVER like them. It sucks. I'm hoping as they get older they'll be more pro veg.

Honestly, I think it's just luck.  I doubt I can take credit for it.  T has gone through a few stages where she didn't like her veggies (I'd put a piece or two on her tray and she'd literally pick it up and throw it as far as she could, ha!) but most of the time she does great with them.  I always give veggies to her first, I figure since she's hungriest at the start of her meal there's a better chance she'll eat them, and since she'll often pick other foods over veggies I just don't give her the option.  Once she's done with her veggies I start giving her the rest of her food.  Maybe you could give that a try (if you don't already) but again, I think it's more luck than anything else.  I doubt you're doing anything wrong!

That is a great idea, I hadn't even thought about giving veggies first. DD used to like veggies but lately just picks them out of everything.

One of LO's new favorites is bell peppers.  You can slice or dice them, depending on your LO, and just serve raw.  He was downing one yesterday like it was candy (not that's he's actually had candy, but you KWIM).  He also eats simple salads without dressing.

LBB is OBSESSED with bell peppers lately too!  He'll eat them whole though.  I've been keeping frozen slices in the freezer for him, and he eats them by the handful.

MamaZ- we do most of the same things you do, the only ones we do that you don't are: veggies like green beans, peas, shredded carrots, radishes, and we'll also pack hummus with them since he adores hummus.  He's going through an apple and banana phase right now, so he gets that a lot.  And for an extra special treat, he goes nuts over yogurt covered pretzels (his teacher thought maybe we laced them with crack).

  • My kid seems to like celery with cream cheese.  I just cut the "logs" into more bite sized pieces.  I also throw in yogurt, unsweetened applesauce, apple chunks, cut up baby carrots, pineapple chunks, basically any kind of fruit cut up.
