PSA: Life insurance

I just paid my high cost life insurance annual premium (thank you again brain aneurysm) but it reminds me to remind others that anyone with kids, a house or both really should look into it especially while you are relatively young and healthy. I pay more for less due to my aneurysm but DH got a really good deal since he has no health history and it is worth it for some peace of mind if god forbid something happened to us.

Re: PSA: Life insurance

  • Yes Agree 100%.  DH and I both have life insurance for ourselves, each other, and J on our plans.

Just signed up for mine this month. It's very cheap if you are healthy and young. I also have life insurance on O. Sad

I know it's hard to do, but I always think of the moms who lost their sweet LOs, had astronomical bills, and that's enough to convince me.

  • Very good reminder. I need to look into this. H has some through work but I don't know the details on it. G and I need it too.

Agreed. It makes me sick to think about, but don't want to live in a bubble.

Us too.  We have it through my H's work on all of us.  LO's policy isn't much, but just enough to cover most of the expenses if, heaven forbid, something happened.  Ours are a little more, pretty much just enough to cover expenses and pay the mortgage off or waaaaay down.

  • Agree 110%!! Another benefit of life insurance on LOs is that because of age it will be whole life insurance vs. term so once it matures (around 18yrs) you can cash in its value and use for things like college!

  • H absolutely has Life Insurance, through the military. We would be in a lot (a lot) of trouble if he died, even with the insurance.

We don't have it on me or A though.... just not worth the expense, so we opted not to.

Why do you think it is not worth the expense?  When I was young, my mom was a SAHM.  My parents had more life insurance on her than even my dad because if something were to happen to her, he would have to pay for child care, etc.

Yes, we have lots on all three of us. As DH always says, we are worth more dead than alive.

Also, if LO does end up getting something that would make them deny him/her, some insurance guarantee insurance if you buy it now. I was denied it, but apparently, I can try again two years from the reason I was denied. It's hard to think about though, because I'm the money maker right now, so DH and LO would be in a really difficult situation.

LI is essentially a gamble, right? The likelihood of something happening to me or A is small. If something tragic happened to one of us, money would be the least of our concerns.

H is a military cop though. And the sole provider. There is a pretty significant chance something might happen to him, and A and I would not be able to survive without him.

Like I said, a gamble. And one we are willing to risk, because we fight to put money in savings as is.
