Can someone back me up?? STM's

Mobile users: Can someone back me up?? STM's

Last night I won tickets on the radio for a Rascal Flatts concert (<3) in February. The concert is 6 weeks before my due date. It's inside an arena. I went to the same concert last year (haha won tickets from the same radio station!) it was seats on the second level, very tame concert, stood for a few songs, sat for a few. I'm super excited to go.

When I told DH last night his first reaction was "You are not going!" He thinks it will be too loud for the baby, people will be bumping into me, and walking up the steps is too much for me. Seriously??? I walk farther at work every day. I walk more steps at home every day from the second floor where the bedrooms are to the basement to do laundry!!  I feel that he is overreacting. To make him feel better about it, we will be talking to the Dr at the next appt... and we'll bring it up in Feb. again to make sure there are no concerns.. I told him he has first dibs on my second ticket, but I know he doesn't like country music, so then I will be taking my mom (a.k.a. my best friend).

Has any one else been to a concert near the end of your pregnancy? What did your Dr say about it if you asked?

  • I hadn't gone to a concert, but when I was 6 months preg with my daughter, I went to see RENT on Broadway. I know that's totally not the same, lol, but I think you'll be fine; He's just being paranoid.

  • I saw The Blue Man Group when I was pregnant with my 2nd child. I don't remember how far along I was but I was big enough that you knew I was pregnant. It was alot of walking and alot of people but my husband stayed close and even one of BIL's kind of stood over me so I'd be fine. Yeah it got crowded going in, but once we were at our seats it was fine. I also went to Disney when I was 6 months (also 2nd child), no rollercoasters though!! Just alot of walking and some tour like rides. Now that I think about it, I was also on a cruise with that pregnancy (3 months)... I miss those fun times lol

  • It's really sweet of your husband to worry and care but I think you're fine going. I went to a huge concert when I was in my third trimester with DD and the music was the least of my worries. I was a little more concerned with people bumping into me or falling/tripping especially after everyone is rushing out of the center to catch the train.

  • I've read that extended loud noises (like in a working environment for 8 hrs a day) can affect baby's mood and hearing. However, a couple of hours once is not going to do any more damage than it does to you. If you were a frequent (and I mean like two every week) concert-goer, you may have to scale it back. But once or twice toward the end of your pregnancy is NBD IMO.

FWIW, I went to John Mayer pregnant with #1 and Red Hot Chili Peppers with this one. #1 has no hearing issues - just "listening" issues Wink haha!

  • We went to events such as hockey, concerts and other sports until I was due basically. I'm on your side. However at one point I was so freaking miserable sitting/standing we ended up leaving a basketball game. You don't have to tell him that last part though ;)

  • My best friend took me to a Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan concern when she was 8 months pregnant. We sat on ground level and she even stood on her chair to sing along...WOOOO! Her baby is fine. If someone bumps into you, baby has so much protective gear that they will be fine.

  • I can back you up.  This is ridiculous.  You can ask your doctor to tell your husband it's fine and he/she will. Your husband is being silly.

  • I went to a 3 day long music festival when i was 3 months preg. Last week we had tickets to a concert ( I purchased the tickets for our anniversary before we found out about baby) but DH decided to sell them. I know I could have happily done it, but after seeing me struggle from the last time he put his foot down. In all fairness, I was still in the 1st trimester zombie need sleep mode and it was all standing. Honestly, you will be fine and so will LO. Baby is so protected in there and the sound is so muted. LO might have fun dancing to the beat!

  • Go to the concert. You will be absolutely fine.

  • I went to PBR (Pro bull riding) event when I was 38 weeks pregnant with DD.

A friend had gotten front row seats to the event (not normally something I would do and I fully did not expect to enjoy it) but as it turns out it was really fun. It was loud and no joke bulls were inches away slamming against the wall infront of us, even slinging dirt on us.

I also went to a concert in my last trimester and an NFL football game at 39 weeks. You'll be fine! If you feel good go for it! enjoy the freedom and fun while you can!

  • The baby can hear very well, but your body naturally protect his or her little ears from dangerously loud noises. As long as you don't go to a lot of loud events and they aren't for hours on end, baby should be fine. If you were going to a monster truck rally or to see Metallica I'd side with hubby, but a country music concert isn't going to be bad for baby. Country concerts are pretty tame, most people actually sit in their seats.

  • Tell your husband to take it from someone who's been K/U twice now.  You.  Will.  Be.  Fine.

  • I debated myself yesterday because Blake Shelton will be in my area exactly 1 month before my due date.  I ended up passing on buying tickets and it bummed me out but the concert is about a 1.5 hours drive away and it's a festival fair type show so I'd have to walk a fair amount before getting to the show.    '

Had it been closer and in an nice arena (DH could drop me off at the front door), I would have bought them in a heartbeat.

Remind your husband that being pregnant doesn't mean that you stop living or enjoying the same things you always have.

This. It's just fine to go to a concert. My mom when to a Pink Floyd concert when she was 8 months pregnant with my sister and my sis is just fine.

I don't understand how the type of music would change the noise level and whatnot; if you have seats, people are generally sitting in them despite the genre.

Either way, I went to a Breaking Ben concert when I was 8 1/2 months preg. with DS and he is perfectly fine, and I had a blast at the show.  As someone else stated, just because you're pregnant doesn't mean you stop living :)
