We've been through three different ones so far, and LO screeches, arches his back, etc. as though he's horribly uncomfortable (it's definitely the car seat... he doesn't have reflux or anything). When I've felt the interior of them, you can feel hard plastic, so no wonder he hates them. (He liked his infant car seat, a Britax, until he outgrew it, so it's not a car thing or a RF thing.)
Does anyone have one that's super-comfy for LO, not just safe? My parents and IL's live hundreds of miles away, so we need to invest in something that my baby will like for long trips.
Re: Is there a truly COMFORTABLE convertible car seat?
Thanks; I will look into that! He is only 19 pounds and 28.5" but is growing fast (and technically should still fit his infant carrier seat, but in reality he's just too big). Thanks so much for the recommendation.
The other one I'm looking into is this one:

It seems to have a bit more padding than most, and is less expensive than most of the others I've been looking at.
We have a Safety First True Fit that comes with a removable insert for extra padding. Our two and a half year old has always seemed very comfortable in it.

My kids are very comfy in their diono radians. It looks like a spartan, bare bones seat, but they find it very comfy and it's well padded. They both hated their graco infant bucket enough that I'm replacing it with something cushier for #3 in the hopes that I have one baby who doesn't scream nonstop in the car. I have found that the less expensive seats generally have far less padding than pricier seats.
I checked car-seat.org for info on that seat and it looks like the shell is not terrible tall, so it won't be as long lasting and that for the money you can get far better seats.

Don't forget too that hating the seat is developmentally appropriate, and some babies hate car seats period. So if you do end up getting as new seat, of lo is still doing the same thing, it's normal. I have one that hates being restrained and being in a seat, and always did. I have selective hearing now. Good luck shopping.
Oh, and ditto the recommendation to stay away from the alpha omega pos.
We haven't switched yet but my cousin has a Britax Marathon 70 for her son and he seems to like it. They've done a 750 mile trip (1500 round trip) with it and had no problems.
I've got the Marathon 70-G3 for my son's next seat.
