Getting to Sleep

My little guy is a very active new two year old.  We just swtiched to a twin bed as he was refusing to stay in his crib.  I think it was getting too small.  Anyway, he does like his new bed.  However, he WIIL NOT lay down to sleep unless my H or I lay with him.  If we try to lay him down and walk out (like we did for 2 years in the crib), he gets frantic and gets up repeatedly.  This would carry on for 3+ hours!  Is anyone else feeling like they have to lay with LO to fall asleep?  Or even to get back to sleep in the middle of the night?

Thanks :)

Re: Getting to Sleep

  • Can he actually climb out of his crib?  We just switched this week to a twin bed but left the crib up.  We told LO if he gets out of his bed, he will go straight to the crib.  He tried it twice.  Now he will not even try to get out of bed cause he hates his crib!  I do lay down with him in the middle of the night, but so far I have been able to tell him "Mama will check in on you in a few minutes ok?"  I go back in every 10 min, and after the first 2-3 times he was asleep!  Last night he went to bed on his own and was out!  Just hope this new pattern last!!!!

    Good luck!

  • I don't normally have a problem with DD1 and her bedtime routine. She transitioned very well, and loves it. She actually makes everyone that comes into the house go and see her big girl bed. There are times when she will try to prolong my leaving her room at night. When that happens, I tell her I have to go wash the dishes and will be right back. I tell her to close her eyes while she waits for me, and she does, and then she falls asleep "waiting" for me to come back in. I feel a little guilty lying, but then I stop when I get to relax!!
