I usually lurk here for bw info. I have and love my mei tai but I was thinking a ring sling might be nice for social things when I would need to get ds in and out.
How long can you use a ring sling? DS is 11 lbs and almost 3 months.
What is a good type and where can you buy it? Are any available at BRU or Target?
Thanks! I'm headed to work so I probably can't respond for awhile.
Re: ring sling ?s
I have similar questions myself. I have an Action Baby Carrier (a SSC) for my 14 month old, 23 pound son, and I love it. It is so comfortable for long wears. However, I have been thinking about getting a ring sling for short bursts of time in a store or in the kitchen when I want one hand free but he wants to be held.
I was thinking a ring sling could work as a hip carry or even to put him on my back. Would this work? I've looked at links (both generally and in siggys here) but still have questions. There are also so many types of slings. I'm in Florida so I'd like something sturdy but not too hot. Any brands/fabrics/links, anything to push me in the right direction would be great.
Also, would it be silly for me to get one now or will he be outgrowing it soon? He's walking all over the place but likes to see what I'm doing so I anticipate wearing him for a while yet. However, I'm a FTM so what do I know?
Thanks!
I've never seen them in Target or at BRU, but I may just not have been looking closely enough. I have a friend who makes ring slings and has an Etsy store. PM me if you want the link to her store...I don't think I'm allowed to advertise that sort of thing here.
Thanks! I'd love the link, so I'm going to try and figure out a PM right now.
I actually have two ring slings. One from sweetpearingslings.com and one from sleepingbabyproductions.net. I like both.
Currently going through our second deployment. Can't wait for Zoe to meet her daddy!

My ring sling is my most used carrier now with my 19 month old. He's small (23 lb) but it will work for a while yet. I like it because it works over my coat in winter and is easy to get him in and out of. He still really likes to be carried, but he's too heavy for me to just hold for long. I do a hip carry now.
I bought mine used off the forums at diaperswappers.com.

As far as how long you can use them, most people use them into toddlerhood. I actually just talked to a mama yesterday who still uses hers when her 6 year old wants a piggyback ride! Hth.

Thanks, Emerald! Off to look now.
