High HCG levels in Down Syndrome pregnancy?

Hi, I hope you can help me out! I just found out I am pregnant and I am AMA. I got my beta back and it is very high. I am very happy but I have heard that sometimes high hcg levels are sometimes indicative of Down syndrome (and obviously twins). With my first pregnancy my betas were very average and doubled exactly every 48 hours. I was just wondering if there is any correlation.

Thanks!

Re: High HCG levels in Down Syndrome pregnancy?

  • Hcg levels in early pregnancy are not an indication of risk of DS. Hcg is measured later on as part of a combined screen then can elevate your risk for DS need for further testing.
Hcg varies with each pregnancy so I would not worry unless your doctor is. Good luck!
