So we accidentally stole a train from TRU

We recently got a train table for DS from his cousins who outgrew it and they sent at least 30 trains along with it.

Well we went to TRU the other day and DS fell in love with this caboose that plays music and I bought it.

Right after we got home it stopped working and wouldn't play (or so I thought).  I still had the packaging so I put it back in and we returned it this weekend. We didn't re-buy it because we thought the quality must not be good.

Tonight DS runs up to me at home with the exact same caboose in his hand and it's playing music, I was so confused. It turns out he already had that caboose from his cousins, and the one that stopped working was the old one; I had no idea.  So we returned a toy that was years old and still have the new one.

I feel bad but I don't think I'm going to drive the 30 minutes back to TRU to explain my mistake. Oops...

  • Ha, i feel you on not wanting to go back to do the same errand. And if it was still good looking that you didn't notice that it was an old one then i just would try to move on.  They just sent it back to manufactoring. they didn't lose any money on one and TRU didn't lose any money either

  • Yikes! I really wouldn't worry about it.

It's one thing for it to be an honest mistake (which it was) and another for it to be intentional.

Just go do another good deed soon so the karma train doesn't come back.

And really, what's TRU going to do about it at this point? In this busy holiday season, it's not worth their effort to try to dig that long gone transaction up.

  • Yeah I'm not feeling bad enough to go back lol.  Maybe it makes up for all those times I pay for things and then leave the store without them...I do this at the food store alllll the time.

  • lol thats pretty fun.

I bet if you went back and tried to explain your self they would just tell you to forget about it.

This made me laugh. I agree with PP though, its probably not worth the time.
