Godparent question

I am a godparent for my cousin's first child. They now have three children and I struggle with whether I have to buy all three of them gifts each xmas and on their birthdays.

We don't live anywhere near them so I've only seen my godson three times in five years. DH doesn't want me to get them anything because they stiffed us at our wedding and I even ended up paying for my cousin's wife's hair and makeup because she "forgot" her credit card and never paid me back.

I say it's not the kids fault so I feel I should get him something, but I also feel bad not getting for the other children.

Last year I decided I would only get him birthday gifts because its his special day, but not get Xmas gifts because then it's odd that only he would be getting a gift.

What do you ladies think about that approach? What do you do for your godchildren with siblings?

    IMO, I'd do all or nothing if the children are young. What about small gifts for each of them? You can get a very young kiddo something he/she might really love for less than $5 or $10 if you get a little creative.

    I vote card nothing for Christmas,  and just do birthdays.  I have never received anything from either set of my godparents.

    This exactly! BTW, my godparents never got us things for birthday or Christmas as a general rule so I do not see buying gifts for the child from the Godmother as necessary but I do vote that you should either buy for all or don't buy at all.

    Well, you are just godparent to the one kid so if you want to get a gift , do not feel like you have to get something for the others.

    In my family the godparent gets something for their godchild and non of the other children in the family (if the godchild is old enough, they buy/make something for the godparent as well).  Usually the gifts are not that extravagent.  We have huge get-to-gethers and huge families, so this makes sense for us.

    MH & I have 2 godchildren, (We're the godmother & godfather for both) but they have 2 half siblings and 1 step sibling. We usually buy a family gift at Christmas (like a new game or movie) and get them each something small like a can of playdoh, and each of them something on their birthdays, but that's because their father is one of MH's best friends.
